Trying to figure out this TPMS thing and how to get it reactivated. Purchased the car and it wasn't working. Display said "TPC Inactive System Learning". I then went to check out the plug and it was unplugged which I went and plugged it in. Still the same. Hooked top my launch X431 and it was unsuccessful at connecting with the Car's TPM. Is this something where a PIWIS or the dealer or a Durametric Professional cable is warranted?

Thanks in advance for any insight to this issue.

 

Did you get the correct TPMS sensors for 997.1? They're not the same as .2s. Double check that you got the correct ones-
It should have paired up with no need for a scan with Piwis or X431

Use that stalk on the steering wheel and access the onboard computer and see the tire setting options

Wondering if either of those is the culprit since you bought the same sensors as me and I didn't have any issues. Also since this was occurring on your old sensors it sounds like.

I'm gonna have to tear into it this weekend. The TPMS that I received on sale are the UVS 7050's.

From the site I think they need to be programmed.









However, that's not my issue as the TPMS didn't work prior to this and the old ones that were removed were the BHSens RDE001's with a date of April 7, 2020. They should still be in good working order.





So over the weekend, I'll pull wheel liners and look for antennas. Already plugged in the connector to the main control unit. What's left? I think the previous owner PIWIS'ed something.

 

seriously the best favor you can do for yourself is to just code them out.

 

They were coded out when I bought the car. I then installed new tires last year I ended up driving the car when the tire had like 12 lbs of pressure and scored the outside wall a wee bit. I only floated down the hill, from my home, then once I hit Foothill Blvd, I goosed the gas and felt the tire twist. Now I've had to patch the tire, for a second time and decided to parked the car in the garage. I've driven on the scored patched tire at speed, in the past, but with this second patch I thought it was best to now get a new set of tires but no freshies available.

I do realize there are two camps on this. What is the benefit of having them coded out?

 

Agree two camps on this issue. They do normally serve as an important safety feature for the bulk of the motoring public. My neighbor’s 25 year old stay at home kid looks to be happily driving around on a partially flat tire for instance. There’s also the very remote chance that even if you do keep on top of your tire pressures, you could always encounter a road hazard.

Unfortunately, TPMS (TMS) is a hassle-prone poorly implemented first-generation product on our cars. If you have multiple sets of wheels, even more of a hassle. They were mandated in the US for 2007 and up model year vehicles, so us 997 people were the first to get it. I don’t believe the 996s or earlier had them at all. I am on the side that prefer to have it and had a similar experience as you. I had 2 sets of wheels and tires and did not install TPMS on the track set but one of the tires was leaking air due to one of the valve stems that wasn’t tightened all the way. I subsequently bought a set from TPMS.com and had them installed as a safety net.

 

I like having them active as its detected tire issues for me in the past and been relatively trouble free (knock on wood) though it has been fickle at moments

We've all seen that kid, and unfortunately for some of us, he's at our house and of our kin LOL. I'm lucky so far (29, 31,33, all out on their own) but I have friends. I dont look at it as all "looserville" however, some families have a good thing going. Heck, why move? save $$ and play....
