What did you do to your GT car today!

Did my first machine polish and ceramic coating.
Well worth the $150 in materials and couple of enjoyable evenings in the garage. Hard to know how perfect you want the paint to be, especially on an older car that’s probably been polished before but it’s a big improvement and managed to remove one or two deep scratches and marks.
Would recommend giving it ago, it’s not rocket science.
Next up, going to try some PPF on the Merc Wagon and see if I can master that skill

Definitely give PPF a try on your Merc, but just warning you that most professional installers that have been in the business for 10-20 years are still struggling to get it right. Not discouraging you, but even the best installers typically have flaws with their work that I’d like to see them do better with. If the goal is protection, you’ll be able to install it without issue. If you’re looking for a great looking install, I’d find the best installer in your area and have them do it for you. I do all of my own detailing but PPF is something that I always leave to the professionals and typically need to take back once to have them fix small issues.

Great work! Polishing is very rewarding.

Admittedly I’m a bit of a putz but I think I’d rather attempt to perform a hip replacement on myself (I’m not a surgeon or anything like that) than attempt a PPF install on a car I actually like.

They admitted they had to redo one fender already and will redo another for some residue under.
You get what you pay for in this case imo... PPF is like drywall, it may look stupid easy it but practice makes perfect
New xpel
RS 3.8 carbon kick plates done

I’ve done my own bumper PPF on 5 daily cars and would never do a car like this, infact I just got my car back from a pro “halo” full PPF yesterday.

Curious who you had to it? that xpel shop by costco or drake? either way looks like the results came out really well.

Lupo motors, they had 2 x GT4 RS in there when I picked up...they have 10% off for PCA members... which turns out isn't a number to sneeze at. They guarantee results basically... there is one full panel they weren't happy with one mirror I wasn't happy with so they are redoing that next week.

What are the levels of shifter upgrading that are available? I know Numeric is the complete replacement solution but I have been recommended against it by several other GT/RS owners locally who said there's too much NVH noise in the cabin from it and it's just too stiff/artificial feeling. To me the stock shifter is a bit rubbery/harder to get into gear so is there a middle ground solution between stock and numeric that would make it less rubbery and easier to get into gear?

went and saw @Wonderdan’s car up close in person. Phenomenally clean example of a 997.2 RS. Wish I had taken more pictures instead of just drooling the entire time.

I think I was cheating with the new xpel but never the less appreciated the acknowledgement of hard work removing all the old ppf lol

I had to replace the starter in my car this weekend. I had the intermitant starting click for the past couple of years but it would always start eventually. Until it didn't..... Luckily the car was in the garage when it failed so it didn't leave me stranded anywhere. My wife and I had just taken it on an 80 mile drive with a few stops along the way which could have ended poorly if it failed on that trip.
This is the first time I did any wrenching on this car. If you can even call it that. It's not the most difficult difficult repair but getting to that top bolt on the starter proved to be the hardest part. You really need to reach your hand up there and feel around to get the socket on with the right combination of extensions. There's not much room and I don't have a lift so I did it laying on my back. Once the old starter was out putting the new one back in went much quicker. WIth everything back together and the car back on the ground it fired up so much faster and right away. Happy to have checked that off my list and hopefully don't have any problems in the future. I did get the Christmas tree lights on the dash since the battery was disconnected for a couple of hours. Those go away after a few miles of driving.
I ordered the starter from FCP Euro. Went with the Bosch branded one (the company that makes the Porsche branded one with the same part number) and it was around $350 with tax. The Porsche branded starter was around $1,100.
This thread was very helpful with all the steps and tools needed. I'm no mechanic but if you can do any routine maintainence it's a pretty simple process.

I’m such a poser for installing these Akrapovic 991.2 RS tips with a JCR Ti bypass, but they sure look great to me . Plan on picking up an Akra center muffler with Dundon headers sometime in the coming months.
Recently had an engine out servicing and my exhaust is definitely hanging lower now. Will need to fix that. Still feels surreal seeing this thing sit in my garage.
