Spill and fill oil & filter change along with transmission service (switched to Mobil Delvac 1 75w90, drained Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75w90). The fluid didn't have a lot of miles and was still golden coming out, but it aged out and I enjoy the time wrenching.

Took it for a short drive afterwards and transmission shifts less notchy and more bolt action. The car is not only fun to drive, it's such a pleasure to work on as well.

Picked up my new to me .2 and drove it 8 hours home. It’s almost too nice (picked it up with 13k miles and change) but I’ll certainly be adding quite a bit to that. Really lucked out on an off market example with my near perfect spec from a great seller. Better to be lucky than good as they say!

Will be installing my buckets and have new inserts on the way. Unfortunately I don’t have the space to keep my .1 as well (though I’m tempted) and I’ll be officially listing it for sale in the next week or so.

@Vocan - huge congrats. Literally a perfect spec with PCCB's and full leather. Excited to see your progress with it and enjoying it. That looks like a long term car given how clean it is. Also interested to hear your .1 vs .2 impressions as you get more miles on it.

Very nice. you should do a compare contrast photoshoot and review before you let the .1 go.

A small gust of wind pushed the frunk down onto my head last week. Time to replace the frunk hood struts, part number 997-511-551-01 if you need a new pair too. Price was $96 this time for the struts from the same source I got them from last year for $116. Took me about 30 minutes the first time on my 2008 Carrera, under 10 minutes the second time on the GT3. Also replaced my cup holder on my Carrera with an OEM replacement for $460 so I'm ready if that fails in the GT3. My GT3 has RSS engine mounts that I ordered for the Carrera to fix my sagging exhaust tips.

Sublimely beautiful, and the red stitching is the cherry on top ! ! This could be a forever car.

Thanks! Definitely a long term car and I'll try to convey my initial driving impressions below. I love my .1 but came to realize that I'm more of a vibrant color kind of guy and couldn't in my head justify buying the exact same car in a different color and starting over again with mods, catching up with deferred maintenance, etc. I felt I could better justify it if I also made the swap to a .2 or a RS. I would have been very open to a Kermit or a Pumpkin but haven't seen a driver of either for sale in quite a while and I think the RS premium has gotten a little crazy. On a .2, would have been open to Guards, Aqua or maybe Speed. Really didn't want to further line the pockets of one of the GT3 flipper dealerships (I won't name names but I think most of us know who they are) and since the chase is half the fun I started looking for off market cars. I lucked into this car on RL as the prior owner has a wonderful collection of classics and wasn't driving it as much as he would have liked. On top of being very clean, it was very close to how I would have specced the car from new so I simply couldn't pass it up.

My advice for anyone looking for a 997 right now is to figure out what your "must haves" are and be somewhat patient but be prepared to have to compromise on some things when an otherwise clean car comes around. They didn't make a ton of any iteration of 997 GT cars and some of the ones that are left now have a story. If your wants are very particular, you could be waiting years for the right car to come around, if it ever does..years spent not driving one of these amazing machines

Would love to do this but it may be a little challenging logistically. May need to settle for a garage shot unless a good opportunity presents itself for a driver of the second car.

As far as the .1 vs .2 goes, it's a little bit of an unfair comparison so let me lay a little groundwork first. The .2 is currently a bit of a creampuff and came with DSC already installed. With DSC, the updated suspension and low miles, it's very comfortable for what it is and feels almost like a new car still. My .1 is a driver (albeit in excellent mechanical shape) with roughly triple the mileage but also fresh Ohlins, .2 sway bars, RSS motor mounts, Numeric shifter, .2 shift cables and much lighter forged wheels. I previously drove the .1 on stock dampers with DSC but it's been a few months and I could tell the dampers were a little tired at that point.

With that being said as background, I'd say that fundamentally the cars offer a very similar experience. There are certainly nuanced differences but as a weekend toy there's nothing that makes me think "man, .1 owners really are missing out on [X]." As far as the nuance goes, the suspension on the .2 is more sophisticated, which is to be expected, but they're both 15-20 year old electronically controlled suspensions at this point..neither is really state of the art. My own personal belief as a total amateur (so take it with a grain of salt), is that the .1 suspension is overall more than capable enough but the stock tuning from the PASM controller leaves a ton to be desired. DSC is such a gamechanger on the stock suspension in the .1 in my opinion. I haven't driven the .2 with the stock PASM controller to be able to comment on the difference it makes there.

The other noticeable difference is the additional torque from the larger engine as it does have a bit of additional shove when you're on it. I find myself not revving the .2 out quite as much just because you don't really need to with the additional power. I honestly appreciate that you need to wring the .1's neck a bit to access the power. Reminds me a little bit of an E30 M3 or S2000, though obviously not nearly that anemic. I've heard some say that the .1 is faster to rev but if it is it's not really noticeable to me.

The bottom line though is that the sounds, smells and feel of the two cars are very similar and we should all consider ourselves very fortunate to have any iteration in our lives as each one is an amazing machine.

p.s. @RAudi Driver circling back to our prior exhaust conversation for a moment, the .2 came with a Sharkwerks bypass so I've finally had a chance to hear it in person compared to the RSS. The RSS definitely has the upper hand at the higher RPM range where it sounds absolutely bonkers but the Sharkwerks has a very pleasing low and mid range, I think moreso than the RSS to me. Since I don't find myself revving the .2 out quite as much, I'm kind of leaning towards keeping the Sharkwerks for now but may change my mind later.

Nice Read, thanks!

Would be a great time to put the cars side by side by side and do an exhaust comparison. I realize that we are dealing with two different engines but everything else would be the same. Position of the cars, mic distance, etc.....

Congrats. It looks like a great .2. I love the spec.
