Default new rotors cracking like crazy!

Mates-

Ive done about 10 track events iver the oast year or so, including 3 events each at road anerica and mid ohio, 2 each at autobahn and gingerman, and once at blackhawk.

After two days each at autobahn and road america, one week apart, with new yellow pagid pads my new porsche oem rotors are heavily cracked! I have a 2009 base carerra 911 C2.

Ive never had race pads before so that is a new variable. But my origi al rotors lasted about 8 track events without cracking. Note I just washed the car so that is why there is water.

Cracking at holes both front and rear rotors. Front rotor there is extensuve craxking both at drill holes and throughout the face of the rotor, which is worrisome to me. Installed by a very well respected porsche specialist indy shop.

Thoughts?

Cracks aren’t that bad. However, seems like the issue progressed rather quickly? What Pads? Would recommend Ferodo on their lighter side like their 2500’s. Ferodo’s are easy on rotors unlike Pagids and PFC.

post in your regular forum as well. We GT guys have a completely different perspective on high speed/club racing events.

Pretty common to get those small cracks.

If it was me I would upgrade to Girodisc Rotors and a track pad that they recommend.

Totally normal. See if your car can fit the gt3 cup front brake cooling ducts to help.
I suggest upgrade the front rotors in oem size - ap racing, brembo, etc.... cheaper and better on track long term.
or get a GT3....

Slotted rotors, which I plan to change to on my next brake job, will probably alleviate this problem.

Road america is hard on rotors. Lots of heat then plenty of cool on the long straights = cracking.

Normal. Oem rotors are not durable on 997 series
get brembo and see yourself get a lot more life out of rotors
Slotted are much better for track use.
also pads matter. Those from brembo, endless, ferrodo tend to be easier on rotors. Especially the endurance pads.

Those rotors still good. You may want to get a tiny steel pipette brush and remove that hard compound brake dust since it's not cooling anymore. As long as cracks don't connect hole to hole still plenty of life left. If you think those cracks are bad on rotors don't try to look at the race pads if you remove them. You swear it looks like a jigsaw puzzle. Mike

those are normal. keep an eye for cracks making their way to the edges of the rotor though, those will require replacement. might want to consider slotted rotors in the future

997.2 GT3, stock rotors, stock pads, factory air ducts... I can also confirm: with just a bit of track time, normal.

Keep in mind you're probably improving over time, carrying more speeds and braking harder. All that contributes to greater wear.

Like others said your rotors are still good. Follow the workshop measurement instructions posted above.
