Default Is the 997.2 GT3 RS that much better than a 997.2 GT3?

Hey guys - as many of you know I'm sniffing around the much coveted world of the 997.2 GT3. And some of you have contacted me with excellent cars and I really appreciate that and I still in the process making a decision.

So on top of the "regular" 997.2 GT3 I'm coming across a few nice examples of the RS.

I have driven both and yes - the RS - and maybe it's the stickers and the door handles - seems to be just that step up. But is it really? Is it "worth" reaching out for it? Would I regret my decision and "have to live" with it's younger brother.

Pro's and con's? Please humor me. Love to hear them.

Thanks and I hope you have a few more meaningful things to take care of this Sunday!

For me, the drive says it all. In the amount of time you ready 10 pages of opinions, you could drive them both more and be 100% convinced of your decision. 5, 10, 20 paged of RL opinions will still leave u wondering what u should do.

If you've driven both enough and are still undecided, save the cash and buy the non-RS. Most that are willing to pay the extra dough for the RS feel it in the seat almost instantly.

If money is not the issue, it is you who will have to decide if it is worth it. I came from a 991 GT3 before I went back to a 997.2 RS and i would say its worth every penny.

I've thought about this quite a bit. Every time I do I come up with the same determination. The 75k+ price difference going from a top market non RS to a top market RS would make me happier adding a whole other toy to the garage. Possibly an old air cooled.

Two disclaimers: I've never driven a 7.2 RS, only a 7.1, and I'm not in a position where I can spend an extra 75k and not have to sacrifice something else. If either of these changed I may reconsider.

This is the decision that I made with a 7.2 gt3 and an aircooled hotrod. But I wanted to track the gt3 and you can add a few parts to get them ALMOST equal rather quickly. If you want something to preserve and resell, then RS will likely outpace the regular gt3.

Either are awesome driving machines.

Always a good point.

I dont really think the price difference would translate to an enormous difference, but people value experience and money differently.

F430 vs scuderia
458 vs Speciale
GT3 vs RS.

Ive owned all of the above but there is still something a scud, speciale or RS that separates the rest. I had the chance to own them so I know how it feels.

What matters is you are satisfied with your car and if you are not happy with it, sell it and on to the next. Just pick the best sample available so you wont loose money on it.

My advice is not to fret base vs. RS but to focus entirely on finding the right car for you. Though I would typically prefer an RS strictly because it's an RS, I would much rather have a mexico blue w/ extended leather 997.2 GT3 over a white stripper 997.2 GT3 RS.

Is the RS worth the premium over the base car? I would say yes it is because the market has spoken, if for no reason other than "RS" tax.

I just took delivery of an R8 RWS last week, it's dull, just about everything is compared to 997 GT3, very special cars regardless of the trim level.

Lot's of threads! Plenty of reasons to like both. For me I couldn't stop until I was able to say I finally had an RS. It was almost a mystical, self inflicted goal and bucket list item. Why? Because RS

Agree with Mr. Adair. Exact reason why I got one. Given the shorter gearing/single mass flywheel/standard dynamic engine mounts, the RS offered more value when brand new compared to a GT3 but now a thinking wo(man's) money would likely go to the GT3 since the delta is much more now than when they were brand new. GT3 is likely a better road car. Get one with more than average miles for a discounted and you have a winner/keeper. If you ever have the itch to drive a RS head south and you know where to find me.

it all depends on your budgets
i went with 997.2 GT3 but not RS as i didnt justify the price difference of 40%

Quick Reply: Is the 997.2 GT3 RS that much better than a 997.2 GT3?
