Hi dgetz993, I have a 991 and I just removed the driver seat so I can get to the wiring under the carpet. I noticed in your picture your carpet is gone showing you the black plate. In my car, my carpet is there with slits cut out, almost like it was perforated. Do you know if I am supposed to cut the rest myself so I can reveal rear-end electronics control unit?

This seemed like an appropriate thread to post. Planning to purchase manual 997 sports seats (power recline only) to replace the standard ones I currently have and the seller is not sure if they have heating or not. Looking at the connector pictures below is there a way to confirm if they have heating? Thanks a lot in advance!

To remove the front plastic seat rail covers, do they just pop off with a screwdriver to reveal the E12 bolt?

So, really the only difference is the passenger side has the weight sensor connector.

Put pads EVERYWHERE. Dash, doors, sills, steering wheel, center console.
Those seat rails just love to stick out and scrape or scratch things. Also keep your hands clear of the slide release handle for obvious reasons.

It's take 30-45 minutes to remove both seats alone.

Not surprised with the weight what with steel frame, all the motors, heating and/or cooling elements/fans, wires and stuff.
While the 500+ way power adjustable adaptive sports seats are awesome, once adjusted, how often are they really readjusted ?
Seems like a lot of useless excess weight.

On a longer trip, I move the seat position around fairly often to change, and the power switches and angle adjustments.

When removing power seats (14 way or 18 way for example) is it necessary to disconnect the battery first?

Yes, but leave the battery connected so you can move, lower, raise the seat to access all the volts. Once you have all the bolts out, disconnect the battery, then disconnect the connectors under the seat. After disconnecting the battery step on the brake pedal a couple times to make sure there's no residual current in the system. If you remove the yellow airbag connector before disconnecting the battery, you'll get an airbag fault that takes Durametric or a special scanning tool to clear and there's a chance you could deploy the airbag.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. There seems to be several suggestions floating around that it may not be necessary to disconnect the battery prior to unplugging the seat yellow connector if one is careful not to insert the ignition key into the ignition during disconnect or while the seat plug is disconnected. Any thoughts on that? Also, I read some where that if one wants to disconnect the battery to first obtain the 'radio code' so that the code can be used when reconnecting the battery. Is that a concern?

I always err on the side of caution when working around anything explosive, like an airbag device. Even if the hance of it deploying is less than 1%, I'd rather not risk the injury or the replacement cost when it takes 2 minutes to disconnect the battery.

No need for a radio code doing a simple disconnect. I've done it a dozen times in my 997s.

Okdoki, thanks again for the info. Totally agree to be extra cautious when working with systems continuing the airbags.

Do you unplug the fuses that are for the seat adjustment motors and control units?
