Hmmm...this is a fine road BUT the last time I was on it (~4 yrs ago in a 4x4) it was chewed up until Comptche. That said, there is Orr Springs Resort where naked hippie girls hang out!
If we get an earlier start, CA 128 or CA 20 are better options...

I found a great website for this many years ago-
Www.Pashnit.com
It has amazing articles written on almost every nice road worth finding in California. They also have suggested "alternative routes" to journey across the state. The articles include important details like nasty turns, unmarked dips, road sign flaws, etc. It was originally written for motorcyclists, so they are great at describing grip condition (although maybe dated at this point?).
At some point they started charging to be able to read the articles, but the map access is free. My buddy and I knew how valuable the text was and split the membership when that time came.
Look for me all the time on Hwy 9-Skyline-Alpine-Pescadero-Gazos Creek-Bean Hollow Rd-Stage-Tunitas Creek-Pagemill in one of my loud obnoxious P-cars

Reviving an old thread for some advice. Which do you prefer out of Angeles Crest Hwy, Upper Big Tujunga, and Big Tujunga in terms of scenery/high elevation views? Or are they all about the same? I know they're all right on top of each other but I'm interested in opinions in prep for an upcoming CA trip

I say do them all! Angeles Crest views get good after Upper Big Tujunga anyway, so just take Big Tujunga --> Upper Big Tujunga --> Angeles Crest. Pit stop at Newcomb's Ranch.

Angeles Crest Hwy goes a lot higher and has more views, but Big Tujunga and Upper Big Tujunga are more secluded and much more fun to drive. Expect some traffic on Angeles Crest.
