997s deals around the interwebz (no affiliation)

There was a 2008 4S that sold at Kuni BMW in Portland a couple of weeks back. $49,000 miles, manual, full black leather, PSE, adaptive sport seats, $110k build. Very nice car. The sales guy said it went for $45,000; they had it for about 2 weeks. I didn't see it in person, but in pics, it looked amazing. All records, one owner, local trade. If it was as clean as it looked in the pics, it would be at the top of the market.

I will chime in as I follow this stuff pretty closely and recently sold a 997.2. I would say "top of the market" is probably around $52,500, and that is the one that went over on BAT a couple weeks back.
It was a $130,000 MSRP car, had the X51 powerkit, every option you could want or ask for, 39,000 miles, rare color, excellent shape by all accounts. There was a 997.1 Aerokit in Atlas Grey for a long time, asking $49,900 here, and I wonder what it sold for? It was a low mile car; probably $46-47 in the end.
For comparison, I sold my 997.2 C2S, 12,000 miles, $104k build, for $60k even. Although not as rare as X51, the .2 motor is more powerful and more reliable. I don't see ANY 997.1 as getting up to 997.2 values for the same model (S vs S), unless it is somehow collectible (club coupe, speedster? Was there a 997.1 speedster?). It is actually pretty interesting that a 997.1 with 39,000 miles got up into 997.2 39,000 mile territory, even with the X51, that seems high, as most people would rather own a 997.2 for the reasons stated above. But the BAT car had other things going for it besides the X51.
I hope this helps anyone in the market. I don't see any 997.1 C4S models on the forums for sale right now, or at least not that I have noticed, but I see a few 40k-60k C2S models in the high 30's-very low 40's, with most everything up for sale for a good amount of time. Most of those are going to have better history than what we are discussing here. As is often said about buying a Porsche: You are buying the previous owner's love for the car (or lack thereof) as much as the car itself.
I scored my first 997 on CL, surprisingly. It was not a PCA guy, but still a guy who was an enthusiast. One owner car, all records, just the kind of person you want to buy a car from. For every guy like that, you see 20 joeys that think warming up the oil is doing burnouts in the driveway.

Look in today's Rennlist Classified Ads at 11:38 am and check out the 2007 C2S listed at $53K. Great build, looks immaculate, fairly low miles, enthusiast owned. Let's see how quickly it sells. I sold my 2010 911 Turbo a few months ago and recently replaced it with a 2008 C2S (one owner, 12k miles, 6 speed, Aerokit, PSE, GT Silver Metallic, Sport Chrono +, Bose High End Audio, Black Leather Sport Seats and Steering Wheel, 19" Carrera Sport Wheels, etc.). Enthusiast owned, all service records from day one (July 2009)- truly a like new zero issues car. Paid about what today's 2007 listed at and zero regrets. I learned long ago not to pass the right one by- I can put 2-3k miles a year on it for 5 years and it will still be a low miles, like new, two owner car. Just my 2 cents worth.
Ps- after hearing all the details on the 2008 C4S I would pass, and then jump on today's 2007 C2S!

I will be looking for a 2008 Aerokit in GT Silver around town! You got a much better deal than the one listed above.

I'm new to the market and am just starting to get educated with the idea of purchasing either a 997.2 S or early 991.1 S in the next year or so. Leaning toward a 997.2 C2S/C4S manual, Atlas Gray, but that changes a bit every week The idea gets a lot more palatable to me if I can land the car I want below $50k.

Do you mean top of market for 997.2? I still see a lot of 997.2 C2S/C4S listed on cars.com and the like for $55k-$60k even though they have 40k+ miles. Must be a lot of negotiation going on.

Did you see the 2006 over in the classified? $44,900, 24k miles, sport seats, PSE, one owner. It looks like a great car for the money, and I would rather own that car vs a dealer car that has been shopped around at several dealers and not sold!

That car was posted earlier: looks like it has been to auction several times. Given that, and the price, I would tread carefully!

2008 C4
I have a question for you gentlemen, there is a local guy here who is selling his 2008 911 C4 with 50k miles. It does not have any options except navigation which the screen does not work. He said the screen can be replaced for a few hundred dollars. It has a tiptronic, the exterior and interior is in great shape. It drives really nice and has great pick up speed when I down shift and hit the gas. He does have a few service and repair records of the usual basic wear stuff. His asking price is $36k but open for negotiation. Assuming the PPI all checks out ok, do you think its a good deal? What would be a fair price for this car?

That seems very high to me considering the issues you already know about. I will let others chime in with more knowledge than me.

If you really like it, see if you can buy it for 31-32k. Otherwise, keep looking. Tip transmission doesn’t seem to get a lot of love on the resale market.
