Bruce - you are probably right. I read on a another Porsche forum that the oil is SPECIFICALLY developed for "problematic" Japanese transmissions with known syncing issues. The fully synthetic oil also makes it more stable from viscosity perspective from cold to warm.

I have looked for the PTX but only found the Mobilube SHC 75w-90. Now I have ordered the PTX from nearest Porsche Center. They didn't have it in stock but have ordered it. Bruce - I report here and send a PM to you when it is done. If improved - you could officially be PTX Bruce or Gearthrow Bruce

Imagine that, being famous for following instructions.

2 gallons is ok if you do 2 cars It's just around 3 litres so I guess 3 or max 4 of those is enough for one car.

Yep, that is a one litre bottle so you will need three of these. At lease that is what is called for, as denoted in my manual, for my 2009 C2S.

For the record, I thought these are 1 gallon jugs they are selling at suncoast so i ordered 2. THe website unfortunately does not mention the quantity in each bottle. I need 3L for the transmission and 1L for the front diff. With US quarts, I used about 4.5qts (some leaked out as I filled up.

I think I'll up my order to 5 bottles total.

Those DIYing their trans oil change should check this out:

http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...-and-capacity/

Note this newer transmission has two plugs, one is higher than the other. My indy changed mine and he made the mistake of unplugging the higher plug. I provided the three, one liter bottles of PTX and he came back to say he needed more. I went under the car and saw his mistake. He unplugged the lower bolt and sure enough, the fill was perfect.

This indy tech was new to my indy's shop but came straight from a Porsche dealer where he worked for many many years. Mine was the first 997.2 transmission he did this work on.

By the way, the transmission in 997.2 is a Japanese-built model by Aisin.

I hate to say this but popping out of gear is a classic worn synchro symptom. Crunching shifts with balk type synchros is also a symptom. In any case, good luck with the outcome.

I suspect you are correct. Others have changed their fluid without improvement. I worry that I have wear damage and that changing the fluid just purchased me time. True or not? I dunno. I will never know until the thing fails or I pull the transmission and look inside. The darn thing is a black box. But right now, it is as good as new.... and yes, a bit quirky.

Yes - it is mentioned if you click on the sun coast link above. I agree it's not super clear (I had to look twice) but it says 1 litre.

This is interesting. I thought the transaxles are identical but apparently not. Mine is a 997.2 turbo and there is only 1 upper plug. It took almost exactly 3L to fill up.

Here's how mine looks like:

I installed the Numeric shifter myself and have it in the standard length. There is different pivot points with this product but I didn't want a short shifter. I drove a short shifter and I don't get it... not for me.
