I'm going to look at a plain vanilla 2009 Carrera to replace my 2002 Carrera which suffered IMS failure. The 997.2 has 6-speed, sport chrono, but no other performance options other than Bose/XM and a couple of other minor options.
Questions:
1) since the Porsche dealer is offering it under a CPO warranty, do I really need a Pre-Purchase Inspection?
2) what is a reasonable price to pay for a 2009 Carrera with 40,000 miles?
3) when I do go to see the car next week, what else should I be looking for?
Don't know about records, CARFAX shows 7 service records available, no accidents/damage reports. Car color is original. Kelly Blue Book (as CPO) is $45,472. Dealer wants 10% more than that.
50 is reasonable if its a good color
IMO no PPI needed if CPO'd
would get them to dump out all service/recall records on the car from their service computer
look at the tires, drive it in city and on highway...
note whether the car tracks straight and get them to print out a record of the brake pad/rotor condition
and note the clutch action (unless it has shown replaced recently) - u never know how good the prior owner(s) was with stick shift - CPO obviously does not cover consumables...
...you can negotiate their addressing any of the consumables if they are needed soon, as a part of your price negotiation
Thanks, $46,700 is NADA number. Color is black
Also, car has 2 previous owners (initial 3 year lease, then 2nd owner), both sales from same Porsche dealer
I would still pay for a PPI, however my experience is that dealers won't allow you bring it somewhere else to have done. Searching here there a lot of stories of cars CPO'd that didn't get everything done it should have, i.e. brakes, tires, etc. Couple pretty bad stories regarding repaint and accidents.
CPO is a good option nonetheless. I would at least try to have an indy look at it prior to purchase. Also ask what they did to bring it up to CPO, brakes, tires, service to get a good feel for whats new.
Here is a good thread on PPI on CPO vehicles Link.
Last listed CarFax Service was 30,000 mile service at 34,000; ODO now at 40,000
Definitely plan on seeing the car before any decisions. Any recommendations for a PPI in Long Beach, CA?
You might create a new thread requesting a "Rennfax at Long Beach, CA" prior the PPI. I am pretty sure we have some members from that area around here.
