So what you are saying is if I put mobile 1 0w40 into my engine, and do oil changes every 3k miles as I have been doing religiously....I WILL BLOW UP MY ENGINE?!!?!

I'd be curious to hear what damage/long term effect these differences in shearing (seems to be the biggest issue right) actually result in. Is my engine going to last 300k miles instead of 500k miles? Will I not be able to track as much? Catastrophic failure?

Shall we open pandora's box?

I changed to Motul 5 w 40 and I noticed my car quieter and runs a little cooler. Additionally, I sent the oil to Blackstone Labs after 4000 miles used and the results came back saying that the oil was like new. It hardly lost any of the protective additives.

When i initially switched from 0w40 to pennzoil porsche/ferrari approved 5w40 euro I didn't really notice any change to be honest. When it got slightly cold I wished I had 0w40.

I don't know I think I really just want to prefer to run 0W40 now. I am ashamed to say I am a sheep now but I like the idea of being able to obtain it easily on a whim.

Just bought a 5wt jug of M1 from wallyworld for $26. Not that the price matters but I like changing oil and am perfectly happy doing this every 5k or once a year (or less).

I get tired of reading about oil just spent about 2 hours reading about oil for an R6. I'm not racing. I'm sure they are all fine.

If I were racing, I'd be a bit more particular.

Fwiw, Motul is a grade 5, fully synthetic oil built around a renewable (ie "green") base. Mobil one is not any of those things but they do spend a lot of money on advertising. Furthermore Motul is clearly better than Mobil because 5 is better than 4. Cannot get anymore scientific than that. Just do it.

Would you rather your car be "mobile" or "motul". I prefer my 911 to be mobile since I don't know what motul is.

There is a rebate for Mobil 1 right now through the end of May. Walmart's rollback price is $23.80 for 5 qts - $12 rebate = $11.80 for the jug. That's $2.36 per qt, probably the best price you will find anywhere: https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mobil-promotions Walmart is not listed but the same promotion in the fall was honored by Mobil for both Walmart and Costco purchases.

Thanx!!! Just what I needed.

FWIW, I fully believe there are better oils for our cars than Mobil 1. The issue for me: does this mean Mobil 1 is bad? My answer: No.

Peace

I don't know anything about oil, but I just got my Blackstone Oil report back. My sample was with 4000 miles on the oil ( Mobil 1 0W-40 ) and 80,000 miles on my 2005 C2. All of my metals were considerably lower than average, low insolubles and silicone. Comments about the state of the engine based off of the oil sample were extremely positive. The only oil ever used has been Mobil 1. I offer this FWIW, I am not an expert in oil and perhaps similar or better results would have been realized with another brand. For my purposes I will stay with Mobil 1 based on how my engine has aged well using it and changing at 4-5000 intervals.

And your SUS viscosity at 210 was at the bottom of the range, as well as your cSt viscosity at 100. Am I right?

Yes, SUS viscosity was 68 ( should be range 65-76 ), and cSt viscosity was 12.4 ( should be range 11.6-14.8 ). Under the comments section they described the viscosity as "fine" with no excess fuel. A high flashpoint reading of 420 ( should be >375) would support their finding of "no excess fuel" I would think. What are your thoughts on those two viscosity markers?

My thoughts? Sure! My thoughts and six dollars will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks! LOL.

The viscosity readings are at the bottom of the range. I don't like being at the bottom of the range. That's why I don't like mobil 0W40. That's why I use mobil 5W50.

Mobil 0W 40 is good. Mobil 5W 50 is gooderer.

I don't know that those readings are necessarily low, just within the lower quadrant of normal. Unless someone submits another brand/viscosity of oil under the same parameters as I did in terms model, mileage and miles on the oil we can't be sure that Mobil 1 0W-40 is any better or worse in those categories.

I switched from mobil one 0-40 to motul xcess 5-40 and immediately noticed how much smoother and quieter my engine has gotten... I love a bargain and mobil one oil changes at less than $60 a pop courtesy of WallyWorld is awesome but I'll stick with motul since my engine is happier with it, also all the valve train "chatter" has been eliminated. Both are good oils, I prefer motul.
