Default What is a LAUNCH car?

I have seen on other posts that certain colours are indicative that it is a launch car and at that they are usually sold at a discount, usually with a certain lack of typical options. Does anyone know?

Introduced during model change, the launch cars are first to the dealers to show off the new model.

Documentation should prove out launch status, not necessarily color exclusive.

And in many cases, more options show up months later.

997 Launch cars were loaded to the teeth.

The 2005 997 launch edition came in black on black and 337 were made. They came with PCCB, PASM, Adaptive seats, Full Leather, Bose, Xenon etc..

That's interesting. Then launch cars are not inferior or more heavily discounted per we. Thanks.

nope, the purpose of them is to show off pretty much all available higher end options for the car.

That was the 2005 997S, and yes they were loaded per above. I bought mine on launch day 8/28/04. They were not heavily discounted in fact most dealers were charging a premium over sticker (although my dealer knocked a few bucks off sticker for me). Apart from options, the only issue with launch cars might be new configs and some might stay away from a first year car until any bugs were sorted out, but if you are buying used that shouldn't matter at this point if the car has been properly maintained.

Except for the 997.2 base car which as I recall it came with PDK but no sport chrono. What a way to show off the new tranny.

My first porsche was a Launch 997.2 base car...

Arctic silver, 6 speed, sports chrono, sport adaptive seats, heated seats, bose suround, ipod...

Maybe on the base launch pdk didn't have sports chrono. The manual had.

The 997.2 C4S launch car had PDK, sport buckets, full leather, etc. in Meteor Gray. I had one - great car, but the PDK didn't do it for me...

Never heard of that one but I take your word for it. All I remember is the white base .2 launch with PDK and no chrono, the green 2S with PDK/ chrono and the meteor grey loaded 4S. And I think there was a blue 2S convertible launch also.

I purchased a 2009 S launch racing green that came with sport chrono and other options. I actually wanted racing green since my 1970 914-6 was a similar color. I did add PSE and a few other items. I bought it new in New Hampshire at $27,000 off sticker and plan on keeping it till I die on my beach in Hawaii.

Yes I remember I offered to buy your 911 back in 2009. I was lucky to find another 6 months later. You don't see too many out there with this options list.

How do you determine if a car is a launch car? Is there documentation, is it just word of mouth, or assumption on date of purchase and options list? I know mine is not just curious.

It's an option code.
