Or to see how many would rush out and treat their seats to nice helping of WD40!

Dammit, now I'm pissed. I didn't have any WD-40 but I had some leftover turpentine in the basement and now my seats are ruined! I went to the store and bought some WD hoping that would restore the seats, but it was too late, the damage was done. The advice on this forum is always so good I can't believe the bad luck I have being the only one to ruin his seats with turpentine. It cleans my oil paint brushes so well, how could I be so stupid not knowing it would damage my seats. Now I'm starting to second guess whether using paint stripper to remove the bugs and tree sap off the bumper wasn't the best idea.

I feel ya. Reminds me of the time I cleaned the dash with acetone, that didn't work out well either. Wish I had known about WD40 back then.

I suppose many of you know, but the "WD" stands for "Water Displacement", and the 40 is the 40th version of the product formulation.

WD-40 is made right here in good 'ole San Diego! They used to be one of my accounts, so I've been to their facility plenty of times. It's much smaller than you would expect. I found it interesting that the characteristic smell of WD-40 is mainly due to a scent concentrate that they add, not due to the raw ingredients.

They have a little "museum" in one of the offices with dozens and dozens of knock-off products. Some are blatant copies of WD-40's logo, and some are just misleading, like using an identical font and color, but calling it "MD-40" or "WD-50" or something similar.

The thing about the seats is clearly crazy- don't do it! please.

But, one little known fact that is true about WD-40: it's spectacular at removing plaque from your teeth. Just spray a little on your tooth brush each day. I've been doing it for years and my teeth are gleaming white.

Great day hunting yesterday - I got a nice deer.

After I field dressed it and had it tied over the hood of the 911, I was standing there with a wet, filthy hunting knife and thinking - how do I get this knife clean?

BINGO - I remembered that my seats are now saturated with WD40. A few quick swipes of the bloody knife on the passenger seat and that knife looked like new!

Thank you rvp325carrera.

You better use Stuff Tuff (STP) and then apply Lexol like I did. I don't know if the WD40 is a petroleum base product or some other agent that could hurt the leather.

Here is mine.

I use Windex for everything from leather to minor cuts. Btw, the WD in wd40 stands for water displacement. All leather products from seats to jackets to shoes are DEAD leather. They need to be hydrated with leather oils not dehydrated.

Water Displacer recipe40.
Anything that displaces water/ moisture is not going on my leather car interior. The whole idea is to condition the leather, not to stop moisture from keeping it soft and supple.

Sorry, but I’m not going to be using this on my seats. It will wind up cracking them up down the line.
