Bilmar 72 absolutely correct. Also if you have a cab as I do when the top is up it is extremely useful. My camera gives excellent 120+ degree (I think) view, colors etc. somewhere on this web site is the brand and tech specs. Sorry can't find now.

This a pic of my PCM henkinc, when in reverse. The picture is clear and wide without the graininess in real life, and the grid lines give great depth perception. I bought the module and camera form Tadi Bros and installed it myself. Great project and not too difficult but not plug and play as the PCM has to be modified internally.
I am happy to do a writeup on the install if there is any interest.
I have no connection with Tadi Brothers except as a customer, but they were super helpful with great after sales service.
I bought my 997 GTS in 2016, with a NavTV backup cam installed the year prior by the PO. (Almost $1900 in parts and pro installation)
My car has been in storage between uses in SoCal (fairly hot climate) since then- always on a CTek battery maintainer. I usually drive it every quarter of the year, either several consecutive days in the Los Angeles area (Malibu Canyons, Angeles Crest Highway, Hwy 33 above Ojai), or a 800-1000 mile road trip into the Sierra Nevada mountains or north up the Pacific Coast Highway (US1).
So, my use has been regular, but interrupted by long periods of storage.
(Regrettably, I have not driven it since July 2019 due to travel to Europe and then Covid)
Over 4 years/14K miles I have had no issues with the NavTV, nor the battery.

What is the benefit of installing a camera on the 911? The camera is mounted so low, it doesn't seem like it would provide any real benefit like in a SUV or any 'high trunk line' vehicle.

I have had more issues with backing into high curbs than anything and this camera would help with that. I punctured the oil tank once because of backing into a low-lying steel plate and the curb being closer than I thought from looking at the mirrors -- NOT a fun situation.
Now I wish you could do something similar to get carplay. I have an aftermarket radio but I prefer to go back to stock radio if I could get carplay. One can wish

To date, the Porsche Classic retrofit units for the 911 are only available for 996 and previous models: https://www.porscheparts.us/oem-part...BoCPmcQAvD_BwE
As soon as Porsche AG considers the 997 a "classic", we should be able to update our 997s.
The ability to display Waze and/or Google Maps on a PCM screen will be well worth the big $ (list is $1475 for 996), at least to me. I am ready to toss my iPhone mount and quit squinting at my tiny phone screen.
My 2018 Macan GTS PCM software was updated last year to support Waze and Google Maps via Apple Car Play.
Hallelujah!
(So glad I didn't configure it with the OEM Nav option.)

HI- I sent you pix on your email.
Let me know if didn't work.
As for Nav without Android auto, the system using Sirius XM Nav (not much more costly than Sirius XM music alone) is totally adequate. Excellent screens to my mind and actually equal to Android Auro Nav screens in my BMW, albeit Android offers a few extra map features..

Hi, space above the license plate is small, I think the camera dimensions are 1.25” x 1” +/- could you please post a picture of where you mounted the camera? Thank you, Stuart stunem at msn dot com
