PCM 3.0 backup camera options?

Ultrasonic sensors on a 4S?
oh - to Alexaqui's point about mounting in the bumpers where the ultrasonic sensors s are - what sensors?? Does a 4S have ultrasonic sensors? For what? I am unaware that my 2S has such.

Just as an update - I've finally gotten a backup camera solution installed (its the NavTV based solution), which works well -when in reverse, the PCM3 screen shows the typical backup camera view with the green/yellow/red frame brackets seen on every rearview OEM I've come across. Works well.
Integrated into a custom back plate base (at the same time I had rear Escort 9500ci Laser ShifterPro transceivers installed).
The camera is the small lens in the middle of the top of the black custom plate backing.
The custom plate back manufactured by, and all installed by Benchmark Motoring, Bellevue, Washington - for around $1650 for the plate back/camera install at the same time as I was already having the 9500ci w/ rear shifters installed. Yes, its spendy, but it solves the damn problem and now I can back out of a parking space in the dark misty rainy nights w/o a rear wiper and actually not just rely on hoping and praying that I don't hit something the rear sonic backup sensors may not be picking up.

WAs the $1650 JUST for the rear camera and lthat labor?
A high end audio house here in N VA quotes $1000 for the total cost with I believe the same camera. Perhaps your parts were higher with the other system you bought? I presume the laser system was for speed detection?

Hurley's Audio
This is the shop that quoted me the $1000 install total price. They put in a great radio/CD unit in my M5 back in the day and are known to do many Porsches.

If you decide to do it, let me know. I am inclined and just logistics of tying up a day with Metro and a day without rain or road wet holding me back. I might be interested in some ride sharing if you are near N Arlington.
PM or better email me if interested.

Thanks, I also heard good things about that shop. Never did any thing with them. I'm also interested to add camera on my 2010 cayenne (PCM 3.0) as well. Will let you know.

Three Wheelin'
I've had gremlins like the audio unmuting itself on my car - and don't have a backup camera or any mods to the cars internal electronics - its all still factory. So your unmuting problem could well be unrelated to the camera system.
I'm puzzled whey its AUX tied in - I would think you just need the VIDEO in, unless the aux-in is what selects the video inputs (do cars in parts of the world that have video playback on the PCM have the option for AUX audio input?)

I suspect most of their cost differentiators is the labor rate. The Seattle area is spendy.

Some how does it look/work photos.
This was just some backing out of my garage at night.
The normal in the dark PCM display, once reverse gear is selected the display changes over - the next image is the display with some light in the cabin as I'm backing out into the night, and the 3rd is once I'm out in the complete dark (other than nearby street light and landscape light) which shows the common red/yellow/green framing.
Keep in mind, this is at night, so the images color/content is the most limited, but the camera does well in very low light situations. The space in behind the car in the brackets is the exposed-aggregate concrete driveway out of my garage sloping down to a greenbelt with bushes and trees. A street light is the blown out bright spot off the ground, and with human eyes the street illumination is not nearly as bright as it seems in the camera. There are 2 garbage bins on the sidewalk directly below the street light head, as a frame of reference.

Hey, thanks for the post.
I've been trying to figure out best way to install a backup camera which essentially worked the same the as those offered by Porsche in the newer 911s. If that was prohibitively expensive, was leaning toward park assist, although that has its own problems. (Running the wire to bumper sensors, control module).
Until now I hadn't been able to find any photos of how it looked when done. Are you happy with it?

I think the biggest benefit will be when backing out in light drizzle in a store parking log - validating some fool hasn't stepped behind the car as I've had the back-up light on for 5-10 seconds already. I've experienced that, where some ladies just walked right behind the car as I was in the backing-out mode and started yelling at me; so that should be a thing of the past.. or at least I can get out and yell at them for being so stupid in the future.
Its not cheap, but neither is the car and a well installed system is worth the labor to have an outfit that has done so many times and does it well, doing the install.
I'll try and remember when I use it during daylight and other situations, to take a picture and post more to this thread (if I can remember and find it). The 997.2 isn't my daily driver.
