Default Launch Control

If you have used this function, what results have you experienced? Is there really a big difference in the acceleration as compared to the car in normal, sport or sport plus mode?

All this does is allow you to rev the engine to max RPMs with an automatic - similar to what you would do if you had a manual. By having the engine RPMs up when you release the brake the car gets off the line a little quicker.

I think it is a bit more complicated. Complete computer control of clutch engagement traction and throttle control for max acceleration.
It is like being shot from a gun.

i have been drag racing for years with manual cars and i can tell you that the PDK is in another league!

i took my 09 Carrera 4S Launch Car at the strip a few weeks ago and managed an incredible 12.03@115 with a 3665 lbs car with driver! For "only" the stated 385 bhp that's an excellent time and trap speed...

Only a PDK or similar system can allow the car to launch at the maximum allowable rate.

Kouzman. Was that a 1.84 60 ft that I saw on the board? Incredible run. I very much doubt that I could turn a 12.03 in my 6 speed turbo. Gonna try it soon though before I mod it

The 12.03 was with 1.79 60ft...

I did another 12.1 with 1.84 60ft. The car spun more in the second run and because i was running with the PSM on it really cut the power...

With the PSM off i am sure the car can run 11s... Some spinning is actually good so the car does not bog down...

Michelin Super Sport Tires BTW...

So i wonder what would you have clocked in regular/sport/and sport plus by comparison?

in regular mode i dont think you can activate the Launch Control Function... The shifts alo are much easier even if you are aggressive with the gas pedal...

^ true. Just wondering how much faster the 0-60 times, or the 1/4 mile times are when using launch control as compared to without in the various modes available to us.

^that would be ideal to do for comparison purposes.

But you would need to go to the track one day that you can do many runs. When i went there was a huge event, probably over 300 cars and i waited 3 hours between runs...

i might go once more this year to test the car with PSM off... I am sure i can get a 11 sec timeslip!!!

I've done LC a few times when I need a quick rush (non public streets). Others have already covered the differences versus normal max acceleration, but it really is like being shot out of a cannon.

Also a discussion going on about LC on the 991 board - check out post #16 video .. it says it all.
