Wow. I do all of the services and maintenance on my cars myself, partly because I want to see what's going on for myself, but mostly because I'm cheap.

Doing the work yourself or paying someone else to do it does not void your warranty. As long as you have proof that it was done (receipts for the oil and filter are good enough if you DIY) then there will not be an issue.

+1. I'm cheap too. List is a DIY all day long. Piggie bank savings for a 991.

For DIY'ers, how do you lift the car? Jack stands or some other method?

Yes Power Porsche in Newport Beach is correct. Nice Dealership, prime area, the only Porsche Dealer in all of Orange County CA. And yes they charge obscene amounts for service and parts.

My stealership stated that they would conduct the 4 year as such, regardless of mileage....it goes in Thursday. Anxious to see the quote, etc., I have 10.5K on the odometer

thanks for all the advice. Took it to Indy shop, which did the 40k service and brake fluid flush for about 40% of what the dealer was asking.

Personally I always ask for a quote and a breakdown ( eliminates surprises )

I could get it serviced at an Indy for cheaper but while its still in warranty it will be serviced at the dealership. It goes a long way for future incidentals and when good will may be needed. I knew the cost of service before I bought the car, so it aint no surprise.

I also had a US dealer quote me at $ 1,089.00 for the same service.

Worth noting - if there is more than one dealer in the area I've seen them offer to match or beat the lower dealer quoted price for service. Be sure to ask what they include in their xx,000 service. Some do more than others. Some service writers will also "correct" a quote if they are informed that they're quoting more than what dealers in a region are quoting. I suspect they don't want a report to PCNA that they're gouging. Plus - if you're driving an in warranty car - the dealer that knows you're shopping them should recognize the risk of loosing your warranty service to another dealer, followed by your future purchase business and try to "earn back your trust" (i.e. stop you from shopping in the future).

aka_Sven,

Were plugs included as part of this 40K service your Indy completed for you?

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for the comfort re the warranty. I'm going to try out an independent shop. It dawns on me that if the independent shop identifies some non-wear item or issue that needs to be addressed, I can bring it to the dealer to do under CPO before expiration.
Ask your dealer what is being changed/replaced for that $1950.
They might be doing more then your basic 40k service. If that includes a brake flush or coolant flush, plugs or anything else it might not be a bad price. Communication is key here. Talk to your dealer service dept. Get the facts.

Also since you have 8 months left on your warranty have your car inpected and have anything fixed or replaced before the warranty expires!

+1 for POTV. Did my 5 year service plus plugs and brake fluid for a grand.

I paid less than $400 for my 40K service on a base Carrera....oil change and air filter is the major part of it.

I'm in the same boat, and just looked at the maintenance book. The book says to change the plugs at 40K/4 yr. Thus, for the 997.2, the service is:

Oil and filter change
Air filter change
Cabin filter change
Brake flush
Spark plug change
Replace tire sealant (yep!)
All the various inspections and checks
