First Porsche - 997.1 C2S
So I had a 2009 E90 M3 and loved it! Sadly, my baby had reached 64,150 miles the minute I pulled into the lot to trade her in. I'll miss her, especially the usability, but I've longed for a 911 just like I have the M3.
I purchased a CPO 2007 911 C2S from Performance Porsche in Chapel Hill, NC today. It was a lease car that only had 27K miles when turned in.
She's Basalt Black over black standard leather with Sport Chrono, full power seats, navi, but no iPod adapter or Satellite radio, sadly. But it is a 6-speed manual, obviously.
I took a few pictures tonight, but unfortunately I timed the sunset incorrectly by about 10-15 minutes.
My first mod that I want to do is to take the Carrera S lettering off and put on the 911 with red S badges.
What do you guys think?

Congrats... I too was a convert from an e36 m3 supercharged to a 2008 C2S. I miss the FI every so often but that is it. The 911 has ruined me for all the right reasons. Post a write up of the test drive that won you over.

I'd driven a few Porsches before (I'm an automotive journalist), so I knew I wanted one as a successor to my M3. But I just loved the all purpose usability of a four door M3, ya know? But when I saw the numbers were so right, I knew I couldn't pass on it.

Beautiful! I have always liked the 'lobster forks'.
As for an iPod/Sat adapter... +1 to Spiffyjiff. Have a look at BumperPlugs.com (Talk to Eric, a sponsor/member here). I just ordered my Denison system through him. (iPod and bluetooth both controlled through the PCM, as well as sat connection for audio through the system). Great prices, and excellent service.

I'm not the OP, but can't resist...
I factory ordered an '11.5 e90 M3 in what felt like the perfect sporting config: nothing but the competition package & folding rear seats (no sunroof, no power seats, etc.). The car only lasted 9 months with me before I traded it on a CPO '10 C2S.
Quick rundown:
- the M3's engine is bloody fantastic in terms of noise, responsiveness, powerband. Oh god, that noise it makes when you nail it & the hood vents open up to grab more air as you're shredding up to redline. The downside of the engine: gas mileage is atrocious. Horrible.
- ride/handling balance, steering feel, etc were all great for any sports car, and fantastic for a sedan.
The huge Achilles heel, in my opinion, was the absolutely crap job they did refining the experience of "interfacing" with the manual transmission. The pedal cluster was offset way to the left (giving me knee issues), the gas pedal felt just like the one on my xbox, and the clutch was light without much feel. The result of this was I could never master driving the car both quickly+smoothly. I've owned/driven a huge variety of performance cars over the years (upwards of 25 now), and never have I felt less mastery of the "3 pedals".
If I had it to do over again, I would have gone DSG, and may possibly still have the M3.
I took one test drive in the SPASM 997S I ended up with and felt immediately at home. They clearly still care about how it feels to drive a manual transmission car. BMW's phoning it in and focusing on their flappy paddles. The crazy part of my story was: I actually "saved money" driving the M3 for just under a year. I had come close to trading my previous 987S on the very SPASM 997S I ended up buying. I balked at the high MSRP at the time and went the M3 route. When I was at my wits end with the M3, I took a trip down to the local Porsche dealer and found that the same 997 had been sitting on the lot unsold that entire time. They had recently marked it "used" to make room for new inventory; it had all of 300 miles on it. Turned out a relatively small % of Porsche buyers want a 6spd SPASM car. I got a screaming discount on the 997, and a super generous trade-in on the M3. Net: for the first time in my automotive experience, I actually came out ahead on a car, if you follow my twisted logic

Congrats!
As with above, I came to the 997 from a supercharged E46 M3 'Vert (BEAST), but there's no looking back.
The Carrera is a great drive and even though they say BMW is the "Ultimate Driving Machine" , it's true with Porsche's "There is no Substitute"!

Congrats on the purchase and glad to see you came over to the Porsche side. Love the black on black, I would also consider getting some Euro Clear Side Markers, they look great on darker exterior colors.
