Under no circumstances should you take one for a test drive. Why? Because they are so dam addictive, and once exposed you'll likely be hooked for life.
I for example periodically consider buying something other than a Porsche. In the past few months for example, I've considered an Audi RS5 and MB C63 AMG. Both of these cars are fast in a straight line, but they in no way compare to the handling of a 997S.
Maybe one of these years I'll find a Porsche alternative that will cost less to purchase and maintain, but I'm not holding out much hope, especially in the near term.
I agree- I love my 997S cab. My buddy has a Ferrari 455, 2007- no question about it--an amazingly great looking car; and very fast. However, when he hit 12,000 and needed an engine out tune-up---wanna guess what that cost?

$10K?
The 911 is very addictive. Save enough pennies to buy before you test drive... otherwise your kidney will miss it's twin. Also a relatively inexpensive car to maintain if you DIY.

i dont think they made a 456 into 2007, since thats been the 612 scag for years. so basically im not sure what magical vehicle this friend of yours drives
as for porsches, the hype definitely exceeded the reality for me. this will likely be my last and only

I have a neighbor who owns a Ferrari 458 Italia. He told me that his major service cost more that $10K. They did pick up his car in a covered Ferrari van, and returned it in the same van. So at least it was convenient for him.
