Default 2009 C4S -> 2012 4 GTS

Gents, I'm thinking of trading in my 2009 C4S (18,500 miles list price $106K) for a new 2012 4 GTS (list price $119K). I'm taking my car to the dealership on Wednesday for an appraisal and will be facing my upgrade decision this week. Any ideas on what pair of numbers sound reasonable? Of course I'm hoping for a very generous appraisal number and an incredible discount on the new car. Waht seems reasonable?

C4S, low miles. What do the online car appraisals come in at? KBB, edmunds, autotrader, etc.
When you do go to the dealer, let us know what the numbers come in at.

I'd venture to say that you'll be offered in the 70's, hopefully higher.

Hmm, cars are too close, if you got extra bonus cash lying around to move, then why not... if not, then I'd stick to your 2009. It won't be that big a difference for the amount of $$ you have to lose.

+1, it might make sense if you are planing to keep the car for long time, this way you have the last of the great 997. But considering you want to tade up you might not be that person :-)

I don't believe you get more then low 70s for the car (probably less) but ultimately its the difference between the numbers that count. For example, one dealer offered me 65k for my car while another one offered me a straight up deal with a car that was priced at 85k so on the invoice they just gave my car a 85k trade in value even if that was ridiculous.

I probably would try to push them under 30k difference

Thanks, I normally keep cars forever and was planning on upgrading my exhaust (Tubi or PSE) and ECU after my car came off warranty. If I'm looking at a $30K difference I will likely pull the trigger to gain horse power, exhaust, and a new warranty.

Im looking at doing the exact same thing, just with my 997.1 C2S. There's limited stock where I am. One red on black cab or a grey o black leather carbon package cab. Nice cars. Pricey here in Canada. I like the idea of greeting the last of the 997.2 gen. There'll be lots of 991’s in the future and the 997.2 GTS is a great car.

I won't know my value till Wednesday. I'm also looking to avoid sales tax which in NJ is a punitive 7%.

Push the dealer to allow a "paper trade" so you get the sales tax advantage and sell it a private party at a higher than trade value. The dealers know how to do it.

So if I'm buying a car from the dealership I can somehow sell my existing car through the dealership to a third party?

I think your more around 40k exchanged with cash. Plus tax. 75k for yours, 115k for new buggy.

If I were in your boots as you only do 6k a year, I'd go for a used 991S in November 2014.

The most your gonna loose is another say 3-4k on yours for the extra year. I've seen used 991S in the high 90's with 2k miles.

I looked at the same thing and decided it wasn't worth it. In my case, I have a 17k mile C2S that's pretty much new. To pay $35k for a GTS, wasn't going to get me much. So I had my car CPO'ed and kept it.

Thanks, I'm hoping for 35K with tax and tire protection so we will see what happens.
