If you want to pick nits, the test car did not have a sunroof, which was standard on all 997 Carreras in the US market - so it should be lighter.

More like 450-550lbs. But my point was that the 991 is not as light as Porsche is advertising.

I do find it interesting that, despite all of their efforts, the rear weight bias has not decreased since 1980.
And the Corvette hasn't gained any weight at all.

As for the difference in curb weights for the '80 SC between R&T and Car and Driver, I always thought R&T, especially in those days, was more particular about their accuracy. My bias, I suppose.
I agree with your other points of interest.....

As far as apples-to-apples, while the test car has heavy wheels, and probably has PDCC and heavy seats, also note that it has PCCB, and is a Euro-spec model. The US still has more stringent bumper impact requirements than other countries.
If a mag publishes curb weight of a base 991 with manual at 3,075, I will be impressed. That means a base 991 with PCCB and sport buckets could be 2,9XX. Sounds too good to be true, but I look forward to finding out.
It would also bode well for the Cayman - a low-option S with buckets should then be 2,8XX.

true, but primary diff between 997 and 991 is level of maintenance work you can acutally do on your own.
i beleive maintenance costs on 991 car will be doubled compared to 997 where almost everything can be taken apart or replaced in your own garage. they keep adding non-servicable items and increase overall complexity - it means nothing for those who lease those cars and never care to repair them, but long term it will ba a PITA compared to how it was.
that is my N1 grudge about those cars. everything is more complicated, even where it is not needed it.
even that detail that you are no longer able to see sh$t when you open up engine bay - it is very bad. if you go to a track and you need access into your car`s guts - are you supposed to take off rear bumper right there in the field? it is plain moronic.

I am so done with this car and all the BS that goes with it....
The car goes back to the dealer tomorrow .. They're buying it back for a decent price and I'm going to buy an Honda S2000 or a Miata on the way home and then race the darn thing... They're manageable and affordable with none of the drama.

I understand your point, but you've got to remember that Porsche's target market for the 991 is never going to track the car or do any self repair.

Agreed. In comparison the 997 is much more self serviceable and lends itself to being a less expensive and a reasonable car to track as a result of it's serviceability and performance. Only time will tell re the 991 but "the writing is on the wall." Of course, if you can afford a Hawaiian island then it doesn't matter if you have to pay the p-dealer to service your car at pit row.

I think this thread needs a boost.
Here....
The 997GTS is far superior to the 991 especially when you consider the cost/buy in required.
This ought to do it.
Hehehe.
