Gonz, thanks for sharing the candid tire report re the Evo's. I'll likely replace my Pirelli's with the PSS next.

I was really hoping the reviews were right on but I can't express how disappointed I am with these tires. There really are no short cuts. I ran Michelins on my M3 and loved them. I also ran Conti's and hands down they were much better than the Evos. IMO there's no substitute for quality and you have to pay the price. When the rears are worn (if not sooner) I'm switching back.

Put Hankooks on my rear once the Pirellis gave out. Thought they were awful but that was during the break-in period, and now I'm very pleased with them.

Good tires at much lower price point than Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, etc.

Don't plan on tracking the car so 'spirited' driving is as far as I'll take them. Holding up just fine so far.

Just installed Hankook Evo's on my 2005 C2S this weekend. They replaced bridgestone re-11's. Am very impressed with the tires. Much better in the road noise dept and they feel great. I do not track my car but for dd they are great and so much less expensive.

another great street tire is the Toyo Proxes1. I had this tire on my 2009 Carrera S.

This was a great tire round-up.

MPSS ends up first, S04 second, Yokohama AD08 third. Yokohama best in Dry (hence best for tracking), while Continentals were best in Wet, MPSS just top-3 in all tests, and S04 did everything well and very well rounded!

Yikes, I'm putting them on this weekend. Anything would be better than my thread bare conti sport contacts. I'll give my impressions soon.

Thanks for update, so I guess you will retract your earlier post?

Just read the above review... if you wanna go cheaper than Michelin, Birdgestone S04 is the only way to go... if you can exchange those, do it!

I don't get it. Simatos say there "squirmy" big time, then you say the same thing after several positive posts, what changed? Are you saying when broken in they just went haywire?

I've heard enough positives to give the evo a try, and if they are Jekyll and Hyde tires, well, I didn't spent a hell of allot.

Basically, those were fine when brand new, but after some wear, they've detriorated considerably...

you also need to check what brands exist in 19" and what exists in 18".
if Z1 star specs will stay with sme compound i wouuld never use anything else in 18" 235/285 sizes on stock rims. it is a great tire, way better than any other alternatives, for my use.

in 19" selection is worse, but there are good options there too, in $1k - $1300 per set category. Conti are very good tires but for extreme summer dry conditions they are not the best and they are a bit soft in my opinion - means less feedback from sidewalls. but some would like that better than sport oriented stiffness.

another option some may miss are 19" nitto nt05 tires in 235/275 sizes. 19" nt05 275/35 tire can be used from 9 to 11" wide wheel and has width of 10.79 which is good with 9.5" width of 235 fronts or if one finds it too small of a split 225 fronts are 9.06" wide.

it takes time to shop for good tires and takes time to figure out 'ideal' sizes you car feels good on. take some time and experiment.

Thanks!

I just installed MPSS, and did one track day. FANTASTIC TIRES! All the reviews are correct.

It is great on the street, ride is firm, but bump impact is well controlled with a nice thump! The grip is amazing, both cold and hot... now this is compared to an old PS2, so not fair comparison now, but I do not recall PS2 to have as great of a grip at any stage of their life.

The BIGGEST improvement over PS2 seems to be in wet conditions. It was dumping down last night, and I was quite amazed how it went through standing water and never aquaplaned, I was kinda testing if it does and it sure didn't disappoint.

On track, they did amazing! Not much wear, and I could push them nicely on high speed corners, doing 75mph and they held the grip (even with stock alignment).

Well, imho any PSxx tire will melt when you will finally overheat it. It may be very good for the street and if you like it I see no reason to alter it.

My nickel's worth: 2006 carrera S. I like the PS-2 for reasons others will likely not be as concerned with. They are considerably quieter than the Conti Sports but not as good in the wet. I don't track so ride quality and road noise are very very important for me as I get older. I also think the sidewall is more attractive than the Conti's. Lastly I appreciate the fact that my tire installer seems to use fewer weights when initially balanced. It may be luck or quality control. Anyone's guess I suppose...
