Is it preferable to disconnet the battey and bring it indoors for the winter or to just connect to the trickle charger?

I think if you plug the compressor into the footwell socket, the fuse blows.

jh, I think you're right; that's probably what I was remembering. However, the 12v sockets in my '09 at least are on F8 which is a 7.5 amp fuse while F10 is for the cigarette lighter and is a 15 amp fuse. A charger might not blow F8 but it seems the F10 circuit is designed for bigger loads as USMC correctly points out.

Are you all effin crazy.... Connect the battery charger leads into the ENGINE compartment.. The doors are closed and so too is the hood.. Only the egine lid is open and thats almost closed anyway so the light is off. I have been wanting to put this logo on for a long time now so here it is........

READ ROBWEEBS question.... I've only had my 08C4 for one month and I've got a lot to learn, including, "how is it possible to have a battery charger connected and the hood closed"? Wouldn't the hood have to be open to let the cables through? It seems there is a way to connect a battery charger other than directly to the battery terminals. How do you do that?

Is the terminal in the fuse area involved?

Pardon my ignorance! and many thanks in advance

Default Battery Charger Solution

I have the Battery Tender with a Cigarette Lighter Adapter Plug and a 12 ft. extension cord. In my Garage, I just feed the plug through the passenger window and leave it cracked about an inch and plug it into the socket on the passenger side footwell (2012 Carrera Gen. 2). Worked fine the first time I did it and no drain on any other accessories - don't know how long the battery had gone w/out charging at the Dealer but it only took about 12 hours to turn the light green for a fully-charged battery. Good luck!

So far in all the years of 997 forum solutions that I have seen Porscheman1963 has the most sophisticated solution which is totally hands-free when you are rushing off in the morning. Maybe he has some NASA engineering training or something but it's designed like a shuttle or rocket umbilical which disconnects as the car pulls away. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ry-tender.html

I just run my battery tender cables under the hood from the winshield and the hood closes with no problem. I don't have a picture, but I don't connect both plus and minus cables directly to the battery. Maybe I'm old school in thinking batteries could explode, so I connect directly to the plus terminal on the battery and the minus cable to a nut located towards the center of the engine compartment closest to the windshield that is painted in red. My service manager agreed that this is the preferred connection when I asked him.
