I would buy 425 shares of AAPL, defer my gratification 4 years, cash it in and then go to my nearest Ferrari store and have my pick of the litter.

Why dont you buy two cars? For 175K you could buy a uesd 997 Turbo and a Aston Martin Vantage or Maserati Grand Turismo S, or get a 911S and a Ferrari 360

Both great cars, but none of these cars you are considering will appreciate. They will all depreciate including a GT3RS 4.0. Id say something old has the best chance. I'm no expert but a Ferrari Dino or a vintage Porsche. Or something like that.

I like the vintage Porsche idea. A 1998 Turbo S is a classic collectible that seems to keep increasing in value, and the good ones seem to be within your target price range.

The only car that will really hold value is an old collectible. Porsche 356's are great, a Jag E-Type would be nice. Personally if I had the scratch I'd go for a Toyota 2000 GT.

if you are thinking vintage Porsche check out the Road Scholars

you might be surprised at what they can find and what you can and cannot get for that type of money
http://road-scholars.com/

I have met 2 of the team and seen several of their cars in person...nothing beats vintage IMO...real class

I'd put a deposit on some nice commercial property in town while things are slow. I wouldn't waste it on a car.

I agree, commercial property or anything with water frontage will always go up in value

It's just a little out of the budget but what about a Singer 911? I have no idea how they will do in terms of value retention, but it is a wonderful blend of the old and the new and will be a real talking point and rarity.

Budget was $175K. 458s are $250K plus $40K-$50K over MSRP right now. So about $290K for a 458 right now.

Doubtful at MSRP but GT3 4.0 gets my vote if any are around? A 1998 Turbo S is probably the most solid in terms of retaining value.
