I contemplated removing the clear film on the front end which is wrapped back including the fenders . I read films have a life and don't know when it was wrapped or what it was wrapped with. Its a 2010 and don't want any black paint complications if I wait too long to remove. It waxes out well and otherwise looks fine. Just wondering about the aging affect of the film's elasticity and bond. Warming up my wife's hair dryer anyway. So hope "contemplation" is a valid post for this string. Otherwise getting $ for X pipes, tips and air intake mods.
I was installing my summer wheels, so I took some time to Plasti-Dip my wheels for a new, temporary look. I was excited when I finished the first wheel, but underwhelmed now that they are installed on the car. I'll drive it for a while and decide if I want to leave it or go back to the original aluminum color later.
Yes, they are vinyl and can be purchased on ebay or renndecals in variety of colors and widths (these are 3"). You have to take your time to measure and mark if you want them to line up perfect. Start to finish probably took me 1.5-2 hours and they came out perfect.
Sadly renndecals seems to have removed most of their products from their site and no mention of why. I suspect they were hit with a C&D letter from Porsche but that’s just a guess since that’s what happened to carreradecals. It sucks too because I was ready to order these in 3.5”.

That's too bad. They were still available 2-3 days ago.
It's not hard to peel and clean up plastidip => use their orange spray.
When I dipped my wheels a few years ago with similar intentions, I did it with them on the car.
Just use a trash bag to cover the brakes. Very inexpensive option to do a mockup
Lookup on eBay or some local vinyl shops and get them custom made => not that hard to procure and not expensive either.
That's what I did when I heard about carreradecals

Holly crap that is nice !!!! The 997 I was originally planning on buying had these wheels, and I was going to do exactly that !!!!! Now these wheels are nice !!! Crazy how only a few tones darker can change the whole look of a wheel and car. You might call this tentative and temporary, but I call this much better and nothing short of perfect. Congrats on a super job.

Thanks for the kind words. It’s definitely a whole ‘nuther look from stock. I am also interested in how the Dip holds up—especially after a few washes.

Those are 18" Starke Fuchs wheels in Cayman fitting right? How are you finding the offsets on your 997? Any issues on having the narrower rear wheels? Are you using any spacers?

I plasti'd my winters 3 seasons ago. This last season i put 12k kms on them in every kind of weather and they STILL look good - this stuff is TOUGH.
They have been washed many times and subject to ice/snow etc. Just be careful with anything sharp around them as thats the only thing that can nick them. I have had no peeling at all
I will say though that when i did mine i put some metallizer on mine and they looked much more silverish when they first went on. So if you want them to keep a more silver tone then I would have put more metalizer on them. Now they look basically black but to be honest I really dont do much/anything to them

And could definitely drop that thing down a bit (lot) to do it more justice. The all dark look accentuates the 4x4 look
