An expensive, if planned, week of preventative maintenance on my MY05 997.1 C2 with 74,000km. After purchasing the car last year, I began planning an IMSB upgrade & RMS replacement, thinking that would occur when the clutch goes heavy or slips. As events transpired, the RMS started to leak in January, so I bit the bullet and arranged to have all done via a reputable local indy. "While you're in there", we agreed on replacing the AOS and checking the engine mounts as I speculated after reading other RL threads that these could be the source of some 2nd gear notchiness I have been experiencing, and at 11 years of age are probably due (over due?) for replacement anyway.
The original IMSB came out intact with no visual deterioration (phew), although it was quite stiff - a good flick on the outer race turns it no more than 1 revolution. However, I don't know how this compares with new one. At least there are no rattles or obvious lateral movement. An LNE retrofit IMSB went in with a new RMS and clutch kit.
The dual mass flywheel was fine, but the engine mounts were sagging and one transmission stop was missing and the other torn. Thankfully the stops are inexpensive, unlike the engine mounts. A replacement coolant cap rounded off the replacement parts with the AOS, so I have now hopefully tackled several of the common items to fail on an early 997.1. (I have also recently done the WP, serpentine belt and coolant flush so it's been an expensive couple of months).
Gearshift has definitely improved with the new engine mounts, although clutch bite & weight feels similar, so I don't think the old one was that bad.
I asked for the old IMS B and took some pics before and after removing one of the seals. Inside the bearing appears to be engine oil rather than the original grease.
I will probably keep the original IMSB housing as a paper weight - any creative ideas?

1) Started off by pulling my exhaust tips off to clean up and get back the shine. They are ceramic coated in black.
2) Pulled both door covers to remove debris and overall check of condition. Ordered a new passenger side today as it's really scuffed. Wife's Heels!!
3) Pulled beverage holder to attempt to fix dropping right side. Found screw housing to be stripped. After much struggle to get that screw out, finally got beverage holder out and order new screws and washers for both sides.
4) Tried to find anything loose in rear of car but everything seemed tight....will try again another day.
5) Removed HVAC Unit and swapped out with used unit I got from eBay with perfect fan and temp buttons. ( Boy this project drove me nuts! )
6) Moved Tranzit Blu to new location for better connection.
7) Added 1 Quart Oil
8) Removed both rear lights and cleaned all the dirt and checked connections.
9) Removed covers in Frunk to checked strut bar for tightness
10) Put Charger on battery to top off charge
Upcoming Things to Do
1) Remove current console and install replacement console ( Current Console is very worn )
2) Remove and replace door sill covers with new units ( Possible CF Dipped Option )
3) Remove and replace seat belts from black to red
4) Re-install beverage holder when new screws come in
5) Replace PCM Side covers with leather wrapped versions with a letter console cover
6) New Shifter Boot in leather
I'm sure there will be more. Just some items to keep me busy.

Dang it! I totally forgot about this. I wanted to make this drive. Weather was nice. I ended up changing the oil, filter and coolant reservoir cap on Saturday.

I had ordered this from Suncoast months ago - knew it would take a while to get here. I wish I had done it when I had it apart the first time years ago for the e-brake, shift ****, and leather shift trim. I should have and it would have saved me not only time but also $$$ - this part has gone up a lot!!! in the past 5 years. Still worth it now that I sit down and don't see that horrible soft paint which has to be one of the worst things about these cars. Had I known what junk that was going to be, I'd have ordered the entire thing in leather in the first place - live and learn.
