Sarge - I suggest renting a helmet until 1) you got hooked on tracking which is very likely the first time out or 2) the DE organizers don't have a rental available and you feel the unbearable sting of sitting on the proverbial sidelines (don't ask me how I know).

And then plan to buy your own for somewhere between $300 and $1400 depending largely upon how much you need to impress your friends.

Plenty of threads on here about helmets but I just bought a brand new SA2010 Bell for $300 that fits great and most importantly matches the glossy basalt black of my p-car.

i would get this one:
http://www.saferacer.com/bell-sport-...productid=2210

contact shop and ask them if they can send you 2 helmets so you could return one with no fees, get one which will be exact by your head measurment and other one one size smaller. usually you end up with smaller one.
Great, I would not mind dropping $300 to own one and not have to sweat out not passing tech, etc.
Thanks again

I am sure I will. If I am into something, I go full blown, if not, it's immediately axed! I have already driven a race car before and a big race fan, so I am sure to be hooked. Your avatar is your 993?

Seeing as I'm sitting in the right seat of paspar's lightning video, I take it you had a good time...?!

Lightning is a particularly good track for a novice, imho. Short enough to learn the line quickly, lots of variety, lots of passing zones, and, best of all, lots of runoff and few walls.

fyi...that rule for 2011 has been recinded recently.

I would get a closed face helmet anyway however.

Nice! I can see the load on your driver side suspension as you are entering that right turn! You must have felt that G force! Barreling down the Pocono tri oval straight @ 185 and diving into turn one, was my "baptism of fire" on what real G force feels like. That was in a 750hp Nascar. I couldn't believe the car held, it felt like it should have lifted up and flown into the woods! I think I have more than a head start on tacking my 911, from my NASCAR run. One of the most imprtant lessons I learned, was to trust the car. If you don't trust the car, you are done. I took 3 hot laps w/ a professional, as a passenger, for that reason. After that, I trusted the car and let it all hang out on my own!

This shot was before I ran! My facial expression was as wide as the grand canyon afterward!

No, but you need to remove the floor mats.

Have fun at your 1st DE and report back.

Thanks!
Why would I have to remove the mats? Does it have to do w/ the less that can catch on fire the better?
Does the DE take you for some hot laps w/ him driving your car or he is always the passenger? I thought I heard he drives as well/\.
