I shed a tear, thinking about the resale value of my car, every time they release another 911 variant.

Except that this model doesn't reduce the value of your car any more than it would be reduced if someone went out tomorrow and spec'd out their own black Carrera with turbo wheels, Nav, Bose, etc. The Black Edition is just a package discount special dreamed up by the marketing department to sell a few more cars. And there's nothing wrong with that. Last I checked, selling cars is Porsche's business.

i predict a lot of tears in your future :-)

Its a certain thing that porsche will release new models, and that they will be more desirable to someone that the old model.. whether its new looks, style, performance or status they crave.

Im not sure how you could avoid this cycle really... perhaps drive much older classics only perhaps ??

The problem? A discounted paint-and-option package...none of which is unique...with a 'limited edition' plaque? It screams of pre-bankruptcy GM marketing.

At least they didn't call it the Wolfsburg Edition...

It's just a way to be a little bit distinctive. Not much different than someone opting for a colored Carrera or S emblem on their car, Carrera body decals, painting their brake calipers exterior color, or whatever. I mean, so what? Seems like we could find better things to get hyperbolic about. If whoever buys one of these is offended by it, they could always specify a "plaque delete" and just smile as they pocket the 4+ grand savings.

I'm not crazy about turbo wheels on anything other than a turbo. It's just a little try-hard for me...

this is what happens when marketing folks take over a great product. and when its about profit, who can blame them. same thing with my favorite camera- leica m9. its like the porsches of cameras. not perfect, has flaws and its expensive. lots of enthusiasts, and some real artists. then corporate decides it needs a few more bucks- safari edition, white, titanium model. same basic camera but more $$ in various special editions. it cheapens the the original intent of the main product and appeals to more of the poseurs. guess there's some $$ to be made on the poseurs. now if i could only get my special black edition of the 911 with chrome wheels and cushy seats...

Love how they claim the instruments are in black (normal for a Carrera) and that the brake calipers are in black (also normal for a Carrera). Funny!
Dan's jelous because our black/sliver/white cars are special now

I'm close to placing an order for a pretty basic C2, and with the prices the way they are I was only getting Sport seats and the 19" wheels....this Black Edition would be a better deal...but I'm not a Black car kinda guy.
I think I would rather have the car I have spec'd out and thought about so much...
Meteor Gray
Tan Interior
Sport Seats
19" Carrera S II wheels
5mm Wheel spacers
painted centercaps
Embossed Headrests
Embossed Armrest
$83100 MSRP
