Many of us have similar stories. My sister was a lifetime smoker. April of 2009 she was diagnosed with an inoperable lung tumor. After a long painful struggle, she finally passed away in Nov.2010. She was 64.
To the OP who would rather die at 68 rather than quit, I wonder if he will feel the same way at 65. In any event it's a personal decision and to each his own.
Leading causes of death in the US are heart disease and cancer - by a wide margin - you crack those nuts, and there's your answer.
as far as heart disease in the USA- the Medical Community keeps ratcheting-down the "normal" cholesterol levels every year, gives us more artificial this and that to replace the "bad" foodstuffs, and yet with every year pulmonary disease skyrockets higher and higher... gee I can't imagine why.
Or replace "smoking" with any other unhealthy habit -- drinking and driving, a lifetime of junk food, etc.
Some people certainly live long IN SPITE OF unhealthy habits, but for the most part, a lifetime of unhealthy habits will catch up to you sooner than later.
Everything in moderation, at least for me.
A cigar once in a while isn't going to cause harm. But that's nowhere near the same as smoking a pack of Camels a day. Most people can handle cigars in moderation, but few people smoke cigarettes in moderation (you are either an addict, or you're not).
disclaimer: I was a former half-a-pack-a-day cigarette smoker, quit 8 years ago; starting smoking was one of the stupidest things I ever did, and quitting was one of the best things I ever did. Hopefully they balance each other out!

Pass the butter, please.
Yeah, those damn doctors. Could you enlighten us on which "artificial this and that" the Medical Community are suggesting we should eat instead of the bad stuff? I want to know what to avoid.....
if you put a 9mm bullet in that hole I would strongly suggest not extinguishing a cigarette there as well, it might have greater consequece than long term smoking
If you put a 9mm in there, there is no worries.... no cigarette is going to likely be able to cook off a single 9mm round, at least not if all you want do do is extinguish the cigarette.
Now just imagine this thread if the car came with a condom holder!
