Victor! Forgive me I did not see your pm in my visitor inbox (didn't even know it existed!)...the only way I can see that these engine swaps could be CA legal, is IF they make this car a custom car with it's own VIN number. CA law does not allow you to swap an engine in a emissions-controlled car that wasn't the engine originally offered in that model. The only way around it is to make it a truly custom MFG vehicle with a new VIN (not the Porsche VIN).

I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, and a Merry Christmas. Again, please forgive this gross oversight on my part.

    Hello,

I've been considering the BGB 3.8L swap into a 981 Boxster. I noticed your post on the BGB thread asking about California registration / inspection for the BGB swap, and I'm currently stuck on figuring out the same question for Oregon. Did you end up figuring out if this swap was legal and/or detectable during the registration process for California?

I believe Oregon has the same law as California, requiring the engine to be of the same age or newer than the car, *and* that the engine must have been available for that model car. John from BGB keeps telling me they use the unmodified stock ECU that came with the car. If this is true, I would *expect* the OBD2 inspections for VIN and engine type to pass, but I don't know for sure. For the error codes, I just have to take his word for it, I guess.

Thanks for any insight you can share,

    Victor.
