Cool

Shifter ****. Had a 996's and I like it better in fast shifting. I removed the 997 oem and installed the 996 shifter. The 997's rounded shape is not comfortable for fast shifting for me.

On the PCM for my 997.1 car latitude and longitudes are displayed as Longitudes and then Latitudes--that's contrary to the rest of the civilized world! I can't imagine that the guys who wrote that code had clue one about navigation convention in the world. Perhaps they fixed it with the 997.2?

997.1:
1. Slow clock (non-Nav). It loses 2 minutes per week. I'm not driving that fast.
2. PCM audio shows MP3 tags on the Audio screen, but shows MP3 file names on the track listing. My files are named Artist-Album-Track#-Track Name.mp3, so I can never see the track listing because the file names are too long.
3. HVAC buttons are losing their rubber coating.
4. PCM audio shuffle is not even close to random. Shuffle results in the same sequence every time.
5. Occasional hesitation/stumble in 1st & 2nd gear at <1500 rpm or throttle tip in.
6. It's always begging me for another track day instead of a snoozer commute.

No audible notification on door lock
no separate lock/unlock buttons
Occasional difficulties getting into 1st gear
Cost of tires
lack trunk space
outdated navigation / PCM control
No off button for AC fan (yes it smells bad too)

BUT!

The car is still awesome to drive with all those deficiencies...

The left bolster, specifically. It doesn't seem to help no matter how carefully and gently I get in/out.

--No auto door lock
--Crappy Bose stereo on my 997.2 (which is supposedly better than the even worse Bose on the 997.1)
--having to press the sport button every time after I start the car, instead of it being able to make it automatic on my pdk car

997.1

1. Stinky AC
2. No off button on AC
3. Peeling paint from AC **** and center console
4. Water marks on the door sills after car wash
5. Lack of trunk space
6. Inadvertently opening front trunk lid when key fob is in pocket. I discussed this with my service department and they denied any knowledge of problem fix

These issues are all minor and certainly don't detract from the fact that this is the best car I have ever owned.

By FAR my biggest annoyance is the cheap sound the doors make when you close them (997.1 Cab). I am always embarrased to close them within earshot of other people. What happened to the solid-sounding doors of the air-cooled cars?

(1) That stupid grin on my face makes it really hard to be credible when I get in to work and want to complain about my workload....

Down is counterclockwise on the PCM **** when navigating menus, unlike every other piece of technology I've ever owned
(2) Oh, and this. Every time I use the Nav Map, I still zoom out when I mean in.

(3) (seriously) If I had known the awesomeness, I would have looked harder for a Slate Grey with Natural Brown Leather interior.

Something to look forward to next time.

Not having a lit up ring around the key hole - how the hell do you find that thing in the dark?

Right! I always zoom out when I want to zoom in.

The one thing I think I would change if I could would be the white dials on the dash. To me they would look better with a black background. I have seen a few 997's with black dials and immediately I just went 'wow that's nice'

White dials seem to have been a temporary fad that now looks very dated.
I've got black gauges in my S and, yes, I do like them better than the white. My only complaints about the car would be:

1) Peeling plastic trim (my ashtray cover looks like $#!t)
2) Wife's Range Rover interior is at least twice as nice
3) Cowl shake/groan
4) Rattling windows with the top up
5) It ain't that fast
6) Limited storage
7) Wish the tips were chrome and a little more flashy (Fabspeed on xmas list.)
