Interesting thing happened to my 06 C2S
I was driving back from work last Tuesday on the freeway and all of a sudden the car started surging/"jack rabbiting", kind of like bad gas. However, The RPMs stayed steady thru out this surging - kind of wierd. It idled fine. No drop in oil pressure, temp etc, no "Check engine light",. So... I continued driving and got on the cell and called my service guy and was discussing it with him while driving. Told me to bring it right in.
Left it overnight and he called me the next day and said nothing showed up on the computer download; however, he reset the computer and said it was likely the electronic throttle. Makes sense but weird since nothing showed up on the download. Guess its Porsche version of uncontrolled acceleration. Seems fixed now..
Anybody else out there with similar problems?

How did the car surge if you say the RPMs were constant? Is this a tip?

This "surging" issue has been around for several years. No reports of any associated check engine lights or any repairs necessary. No repeatability of symptoms. Previous "cures" have been removing & resetting the gas cap and filling the tank. Seems to happen every now and then on a partial tank of fuel. Had this issue 4 times, the last about 20K miles ago.

If it was right around 3000 rpm it may have been the variocam setting changing back and forth. If it happens again and around 3000 rpms, raise or lower the rpms somewhat - if the symptom goes away it was the variocam - just a quirk when you stay right at its change point.

Had the same thing 3 or 4 times in 25,000 miles. Lasts 5 minutes or less and then back to normal. I've had it with full tank of gas, half tank and quarter full. The only thing consistent about these events is that they're far apart, almost as if something needs time to build up. If you had it just the other day it should be a while before the next one.

It was not bad gas since its running on the same tank now. Could have been the gas cap, they might have checked it in service. As far as the RPMS not changing, I agree that its wierd. If they were changing you could not see it on the tach. Also, it happened at all RPM ranges up 6000+ except off throttle and idle. I drove it like this for about 30 minutes and it did not seem to be getting worse with time. Just a little oddity with the electronics I guess

This is a characteristic of the 997.1 engines--occasionally. Most have never experienced it. I have encountered it twice, but it's been some time (now at 45,000 miles). I had a thread on this a couple years ago entitled something like "jerking and snatching."
My problem went away on its own. Several had the MAF sensor replaced.

Mine had it 2 or 3 times. Like everyone says it goes away. The only common factor is warm/hot outside temps. The gas cap trick seems to work. Sure sounds like vapor lock....GR
