drive it until the wheels fall off..
i was just thinking how many people are buying keeping there 997.1 and 997.2 and keeping them for the long hall..i personally would get attached to my car when i get it and would do light modding as the years turn to freshen it up a little ...what are your thoughts

I will keep mine, if I continue to want it vs another car, only as long as it has its existing CPO or another warranty I buy later. To me the days of keeping Porsches for the long term have ended. They aren't the comparitively simpler mechanical devices they once were, but complex modular, computerized, expensive electronic devices. Better driving yes but not better collectibles.

Agree with Jastx. I won't PLAN to keep it, I just might wind up keeping it depending on how lucky I feel and how other comparable cars are doing. Then again it depends on what Porsche offers in a few years.

That's funny, I guess you can literally include me in that category. In fact, I will sign up as a card carrying member.

^^^^^ Ouch!
I plan on driving mine for a very very long time. I'm putting on at least 1,000 miles per week at the moment and love it.

No reason why a modern 911 cannot last 200k miles and a long time. Yes some M96/M97 engines will fail but they will not be the majority.

Don't know how you look at that rusty lug nut every day. just replace it. They're not that much.

I have always had a tendency to keep my Porsches for many years and a lot of miles. Usually I sell them when they have 125,000 miles or more on them. (One reason I got the 100,000 mile ten year coverage).

I plan on keeping my 2005 C2S for years too. It has joined my other classics in the garage. My main reason is that I could simply not afford to be changing it every few years but also the devil you know is better than etc etc.
Another point is that my C2S has ALL the options ticked - except auto transmission (mine is a manual) which is good.
Of course as with any classic car a good dry garage to store it in and the discipline to avoid use in bad weather or wet conditions is a must with the Porsche just like any other car to keep it looking new.

Long haul here as well. I typically keep cars until they exceed 100K miles. In the case of the Carrera I'm going for 150K plus, even if I have to replace the engine and/or transmission at some point. Resale value was never a factor in buying the car.

Is that factory warranty or aftermarket?
I thought the most you could have was 100k/6yrs through the factory
Please explain.

This is my first porsche (not counting the carmax 996 I bought then returned after the huge puff of smoke came out of the engine). I've wanted one since I was 15 so it's a childhood dream fulfilled. I'm keeping mine.
But I plan on getting another. I was thinking 996 GT3, paint it signal green and send to to sharkwerks for the 3.9 treatment

I plan on keeping mine for a long time as well.
It has all the options I wanted and is like brand new with 8,500 miles.
Would be too hard to find another one like it.
However, if the right Guards Red GT3 came along....

My 997 is already 5 years old (had it for a year now), although it has just under 25K miles. Since I drive it just to the office and back (we use our other car for everything else) I'm averaging around 6500 miles/year. When the CPO expires in another year I'm planning to get another 6 yrs warranty, which when it expires the car will be 12 years old and have 70+K miles. I think that will probably be enough of it for me, but you never know.
