Default 8k miles and a no good battery

Hey guys,

My '07's battery has finally bit the dust but at only 8k miles. Is this common? A warranty item perhaps?

I have complained about the battery draining from my last two trips to the dealer and they have inspected the charging system and could not find anything wrong with it. The service adviser also mentioned that Porsche replaces batteries only if the car get's driven a certain amount of miles per year or something to that tune....can't really recall.

The car get's driven every 3-4 weeks.

Either drive more often fully recharging the battery or use a battery maintainer.

Lead acid batteries, unlike other types of rechargeables, like to be fully charged all the times. When discharged excessivrly some failure mechanisms occurr. Deep cycle batteries are more immune but as ADias said better to keep it topped up

Batteries are not warrantied items--ask how I know. You need a trickle charger. If you are letting the car sit for 3-4 weeks at a time, your battery will drain.

Do I have to get the Porsche specific battery or will I be able to find a suitable replacement at a parts store?

You can get an Interstate-do a search to confirm the number.

You might consider hooking up a battery maintainer or you'll end up replacing batteries every couple years. An even better idea as suggested is to drive the car more often. If you have so many cars in the rotation that you only get to the Porsche every 4 weeks then you are my hero.

I just replaced my original 05 battery last Friday..... my dealer offered me two choices:

1/ Porsche battery, $252.00 + tax

2/ Audi battery, $125.00 + tax, identical in every way to the original Porsche battery.

guess which one I chose?

Just turned 82,500miles on my 997 C2 on the original battery...these cars have a surprising amount of drain just sitting in the garage. I use a Griot's garage battery tender when I go on vacations...works great!

For a 07 model the car is not getting enough exercise,--and thus the battery has failed. I have 38,000 miles + on my 06 model and never any battery issues. Driving a car once every 3-4 weeks is absolutely your problem. The trickle charger is a solution. Driving it more is the other.

The new ones come with trickle chargers.

Also my 996 GT3s battery bit the dust in a year or so. Time to switch to Optima.

Any 997 should not have much draw with the car off and the doors locked, should be in the range of
>.030 amps not very much considering the computers that are in the car. Porsche will nto warrenty a battery in a car driven less then 6000 miles a year, lead batterys become sulfated and thats physics not porsches fault.

I have 30,000km on my '05 and the battery is ok. It's had a battery tender since new though.
