Not sure I agree on the magazine coverage. The R8 was awarded Car of the Year by Top Gear, Automobile, Autobild and it's consistently getting good press in virtually every magazine review I've read. After it was reviewed in Evo, it actually replaced the 997 as Evo's top pick in its class. In fact, the Porsche mags that ran comparison tests were generally very positive in their coverage too.

well, i stand corrected, i think i just read my dads road and track mag...they rated the r8 better than any other car in the comparison, including the 997 tt and a gtr, the viper acr and lambo gallardo.
i still don't really like it. i admire audi for making the car, and to salute the r8 track heritage is great.
i just dont think that if given 115g(or so, i believe there are markups) it wouldn't be the car i chose. i'm more likely to get a viper rt/10 and something else.
