lost key now what?
One of my Porsche keys jumped out of my purse and I fear it's gone forever. Is it possible to somehow de-activate that key? How much should a new one cost?

Hey Laura, you sure Butch or Spike didn't fish them out of your purse and hide them somewhere?
There might be a way to reprogram your ignition and remote entry to prevent whoever it is that finds your keys from having access to your car. You can ask your service dept about that, unless someone here knows for sure.
As for the replacement cost, see here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/370236-cost-of-replacement-key.html

Each key head has an identifying 22 digit number that is stored in the cars computer. You may have up to 4 entries. You probably do not have the number for that specific key, or your other keys. If you did it would be simple to just delete that number and leave the rest. You can delete them all but the other working key you have cannot be reentered if you don't have the 22 digit code for that key and there is no way to obtain those numbers from Porsche. They come with a bar code tag upon purchase and that is the only identifier. If you replace that key head you will receive a new code that can be entered into your car's computer.

The lost key can be deleted via the PIWAS system at the dealer. If you purchase a new key, take your other keys along (including the black plastic one) so they can all be reprogrammed together. we went through this with my son'e 1999 Boxster a few years ago.

Spike and Butch sometimes take my car. They pack up thier tennis rackets and head down to the club. They play in a round robin together and then stop for sushi on the way home. They are handfulls!
Thanks for your help. I had to do the same thing with my BMW. Stressfull not knowing where my key is.

On the 9X7 cars just take all your keys, you cant delete one key like the 9X6 series. What the dealer will do is reprogram the keys that you provide. The nice thing with the 9X7 series is if you happen to find the key it can be reprogrammed to your car. With the 9X6 series you had to have the 20 digit code that came with the key.

As others have said, you should be able to go to the dealer with all of the keys you now have to the car, buy a new key from them, and then get your car/key marriage wiped out and have the set of keys you then have in your possession re-married to the car (thus excluding the lost key).
