The options debate
Seen a lot of discussion here about options and what's worth getting and what's not. Can't say whether my experince is representative of anything or not but I still think it's worth sharing. A month ago I looked at three -06 Carreras. Two were 4S's and one a 2S. All three had between 4,500 and 6,000 miles and all three were pristine. One 4S was heavily factory optioned but had nothing else. 100% stock and priced at 89,900. Same for the 2S. Gobs of factory options but nothing custom and priced at 79,500. Then the one I bought. A 4S with 4,800 miles and little from the factory. Upgraded leather front & rear (supple.....not the little pricked pattern), Bose, wheel crests, CD changer and rear wiper. It did however have Champion RS 98's, H&R springs and a Tubi exhaust.......all installed by Champion Motorsport for just shy of $9K. Paid $79,000 for this or about what I would have paid for the 2S with maybe 100lbs. worth of Porsche fluff that I honestly can say I haven't spent a single moment wishing for. From this I guess there will be as many conclusions drawn as there are readers.
Very nicely done. Best of luck with it.

These things sounds awesome on the few clips that exist out there.
I really like that raspy exhaust tone.
Sounds like you got a great deal !!

Personally I would go with the 'stock' cars that have been unmolested. Porsche generally puts the best stuff on the cars in the first place. I can't tell you how many times I have seen better materials, better integrated, cast aside for something 'custom' But then, I only have 250,000 miles in 911s....
Sandwedge, those wheels are amazing! WOW...I love them! They are light too, correct?
Tubi is pretty quiet on light throttle and sitting at idel it does not seem much louder than stock....but it wails a super nice note above 5000rpm full throttle.
I live just a few exits right up I-75 in Apollo Beach. If you are up this way let me know. Also Saturday in Clearwater at the Starbucks on Ulmerton rd there is a big exotic car get together.
see ya, Mike

Obviously all this depends on what your ultimate goal is. For me it was easy. I don't need, nor do I want 60lbs. worth of electrical motors to move my seat and I don't need (or want) an onboard computer to tell me where to go. I also don't want stiched leather all over the cabin making me feel like I'm in a Cadillac . I do however want an upgraded exhaust system, lighter, better looking wheels and a lower stance. Had I bought the car loaded with factory fluff and then added wheels, exhaust and springs I would have close to $100K in an -06 C4S. The bottom line for me was a near $30K swing if you consider the median price of a low mile -06 C4S and the mods I desire.

When you say that you would be close to a $100K 06 C4S it appears that resale is important to you. To some of us resale is not important. I ordered what I wanted in a car,--not the next guy. I'm afraid that the majority of 997 buyers today are more concerned with moving the car quickly and then off into something different. I keep cars for a long time.
