Default Road Trip continued......Ok Cty to Holbrook AZ

776 mi covered today...good drivng weather...winds were not to bad.

Did take a little tour around the Painted Desert...spectacular, as always.

For those of you that think my average speed is low...well the trip computer is running from the time the engine is started and if you loose speed in a construction zone of 15 miles it is really hard to make up.

New Mexico gets the award for the most construction projects...miles and miles of them.
New Mexico gets the award for the lowest octane fuel...90 was the best available for premium...fill'er up and go...car still runs.
Got some 91 in AZ

The final leg will begin tomorrow..

Go down to Payson and take the Beeline Highway to Phoneix. Great 4 lane highway with high speed corners, no traffic during weekdays and few cops.

Looks really nice - but a bit out of my way, by a couple hundred miles, on this trip

Are you coming through Vegas at all?

If so, let me know...If you have time for lunch, dinner or just a snack, my treat.

Looks like an interesting drive. I might do that on my way back from NM. What's the conditions like in the mountains in Nov? Snow? Rain?

MJ, how many gas stations are in these parts? Hate to see if you're running low.

November's probably a little early for rain/snow here, but you never know. You hit about 7000 ft near Heber. Payson is at about 5200 ft. Its a nice drive.

Not sure where you will be in NM, but the 191 in the eastern part of the state is the double diamond drive in AZ. The northern end is about 9000 ft. There are about 1100 turns over the next 100 miles as you descend into the desert. Little traffic.

drfous,

That route is incredible. I did it solo a couple of years ago in my 993. I was exhausted after the drive. I think one of the car magazines rated it one of the top ten roads in america.

I drove it in early May and saw one other car.

Wow that looks like a great drive. I suppose an extra day for that road isn't too bad. Hope it doesn't get too cold in Nov... I'm going with the Cab.

All those roads east over to I-25 into New Mexico are great roads, no people for the most part. Great scenery and curves.

I've heard the roads in Western NM are awesome as well. Haven't made it over there yet.

drfous, Thanks for the 191 recommendation. It is an AWESOME drive. I didn't do it in the 997 (964 instead). It would've been much faster with the 997, I don't like going that fast on public roads and the 964 is a great car with lower limits for this road. Still thanks for the tip. I hope to bring the 997 next time for the S-N 191 trip so I can use the power going up that hill. One other thing is that the road is relatively safe since you can see what is coming in the opposite direction.
