Evidently Porsche uses the same glass supplier from many years ago. I have found over time that the European glass that comes as original equipment on Porsches is easily pitted. If and when the windshield gets replaced here in the states you may wind up with something made in America (if they're even bothering to do it yet). The American windshields are much better and less likely to pit.

Mine looked like it had thousands of very tiny bubbles in the glass the day I picked it up. I've never seen a more cloudy windshield in my life. Even when I clean it inside and out, there are tons of very, very small bubbles or other contamination in the glass that are clearly seen in direct light. I've thought about asking the dealer to replace it but, once again, any work of this type often leads to other problems. Best to just live with it I think.

13k miles and I absolutely hate it. My BMW has the same problem. How much to replace with an American version, I wonder? I hate breaking the seal as the car's impact absorbtion can be negatively affected and perhaps putting me in more danger for a clearer view. Anyone replace theirs with success?

Any qualified glass company can install a new Porsche supplied glass for less than $800. No need to worry about structural support with the install.

Is there any type of glass polish that might help? My BMW X5 has 38,000 miles on it and the glass looks OK..never noticed it is softer than any of the recent American auto's (Escalade, Jeep, Explorer) I have had.

BMW uses the same soft glass that Porsche does. Check your car at sun set or sun-up and you'll see what looks like little bugs, but they're not. Four other guys in my office have BMW's and all of them have the same rash. Check the BMW forum and you'll see similar discussions. I'm too damn picky to live with it. I got nailed by a brick shard after leaving the DMV--license renewal. I was scared at first, then thought too bad it didn't break so I'd have to replace it. Oh, and don't even get me started on the deralicts hanging around that place.
