Default Pcar as Daily Driver

I am on the verge of getting a new C4. This will replace my 2003 M3, and 2004 VW Touareg, and be my daily driver. I will likely do 25k a year.

Anybody else user thier cars as daily drivers? Any issues that I should be aware of? By all accounts, the cars are reliable. I just want to be sure before I jump in all the way.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I have another car now, but it will be history soon. The 997S will then be my DD.

I've been driving mine daily for about the past 8 months and love it. The only issue for me is the enormous cost of tires.

I am using my 06 C2S as a daily driver and I love it! Mix of highway/city driving in 15-20 mile commute. 12K miles per year. Two months into ownership experience and I get jazzed before every ride. Plan on getting snows and driving it in the winter...although I will park it if there is even the slightest chance of precip.

These cars are meant to be driven. The vehicle is very well mannered in all driving situations. Biggest tradeoff is having to drive more defensively than I have in the past given the $100K value of the ride...this is not a bad thing as I believe I am driving more attentively than I ever have in approximately 30 years of driving.

Go for it!

I drive my 996 C4S about 20K a year, all year round, to and from NYC. If Porsche ever wants to give me a car for long term testing I'm game.

The 911, the only "exotic" that can be driven daily. Go for it!

I drive my 997 every day. My commute to work is 38 miles each way. I go the opposite direction of traffic (live in the city, work in the burbs), and as a result can wind it out a little most days. The 997 makes a great daily driver. Glad to see so many others actually driving their cars!

fit like a glove (PITA to get in and out of multiple times per day)
you have to be in the mood (not tired) for the constant drone of the engine, or gets annoying
less visible to other cars in parking lots and crowded freeway traffic
no room for extra stuff (airport runs are nearly impossible)
is a vandal magnet
on poor roads if you have a lapse in attention you can smash a wheel
requires alot of attention to drive; gives constant feedback to driver
has no spare (unless you equip it with one)
manual tranny is annoying in traffic
seeking ding-free parking for your $100K machine is a constant annoyance

I'd recommend driving the Carrera when you are in the mood to drive it ; unless you're younger than 28 and unmarried (don't have as much other BS to occupy your mind), IMO, it's not a great car for the crowded, get-it-done, hustle and bustle of real life.

The M3 OTOH, works around the above mentioned constraints very well also providing a great deal of fun-to-drive when you want it.

oh, no flames please. I'm just pointing out the DIS advantages of DD Carrera useage.
In over 5 years of driving a 996 into the NYC in rush hour traffic and in all weather I couldn't disagree more... with the exception of an airport run where many travel bags are needed. However, I don't take my 996 to get 2 yards of mulch either.

That's what Hummers are for.

Depending on your risk tolerance IMO it's better to have a beater for daily driver. That is if you have the option.

Nah, I respect you guys who do the DD thing with the Carreras. It's a good car for such practical things if you're a car guy (enjoyment of it and being careful with it can be balanced). I also like the idea of not getting soooooo prissy about using the darn thing and not afraid of possibly getting dents, dings (most can be fixed reasonably and by the batch). More power to y'all.

I drive my C2S every day, 40 miles round trip commute. It's the perfect daily driver in my view. I look forward to the drive to work, it's a lot of fun every day, it's very safe, it's an all year round car (I have winter tires for the snow season, they work like a dream). Go for it. What's the point of having one in the garage and not driving it ?

My 99 996 had 145K miles on it when I sold it. My current 06 997S has 10K and it's
8 months old. 20K per year for a modern day Porsche is really a walk in the park.
Any car is not that much fun to drive in bumper to bumper traffic but even with that
in mind you will still enjoy daily driving. As far as reliability on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the best )Porsche for me is an 11.
