to x51 or not(that is the question)
hey guys this is my 1st post and i am putting an order for a 997c2s blk/blk. i was going through the option list and i am a performance guy all the way so obviously i was looking at the x51. now i was doing some research and found some aftermarket companies that offer some intrigueing kits but i dont know what route i should take? warranty is one factor but when i see what these other kits offer is it worth voiding my warranty for? should i go for the sure thing in the x51 and end up paying a hefty premium for. need some help plz! all comments will be appreciated especially those who ordered and those who didnt.

The X51 is an extensive kit and the power claims for it are backed by the factory. You may find aftermarket products out there that can get you to the same power levels and then again you may get something that looks good on paper but doesn't truly produce the power.
I'd go with the X51. Remember, if it is too much now you can always add it later.

I'm a performance freak myself, and having heavily modified my E55, it came back to kind of haunt me. First of all, anything you do to the car will technically void your warranty. Now of course, some dealers are more mod friendly than others. Mine never denied any warranty work, but they did bitch constantly and remind me what a favor they were doing for me.
where it really hurt was in looking for trade in. No one wants to touch the car with a 10 ft. pole. I was basically being offered wholesale prices because no dealer wanted to take it. And even if they were willing to deal, you will not get back what you paid for the mods. You'll need to find someone who wants what you've done to the car. Looks like I found someone to take my car who wants what I've done to it.
Modding is fun, but as you know it comes with it's downside as well.

As long as you are going to order it, I WOULD get the x51 package. Here is the write up that Aerosmith did shortly after he got his 997 optioned with the x51 package. You may have already read it, if so, sorry... if not, read on!

You'll be backordered, yeah, but you get a warranty. And if you went aftermarket including labour and tuning you'd still take the same amount of time and money. I mean dropping your car off at a mod shop can take months... depends.
As well, it's always a better starting point to jump off from with mods later down the road.
Of course, there's alwaus the 2007 turbo and the 2007 GT3....

I would decline the X51 at this time. Why? It's too expensive at $16K, by the time you option the car out it is over $100K. That's TT territory in my book. No way I would spend that kind of money on a "integtrated dry sump" M96/7 engine. For a relatively small difference get the real deal, a dry sump GT3 or TT.

X-51? If you can handle the delay then go with it! Are you planning on keeping this car for a long time then really get it! If you will only have the car for a few years then pass if you wan't that instant gratification.
I have it, I Love it!!!
