Default C4S-X51 vs. 997TT

I was just about to order a C4S with X51. You can read about the specs. in this thread: C4S-X51 Order Specs.

However, after reading the specifications of the new 997TT that Porsche finally released today, I've reconsidered. I had never really considered the TT due to the presumed high cost but after I compared my optioned C4S with the X51 package, I decided to create a spreadsheet and see what the real numbers were.

First, I was pleasantly surprised that the base cost of the TT is $122,900. While this is significantly higher than the C4S, it comes with a host of standard features that were options on the C4S. Unfortunately, the official order guides are still not available at the Porsche dealer, but by sifting through the narrative and text found on Porsche's website regarding the TT, I was able to determine (more or less) what was being offered as standard features.

In summary, $10,000 will get you 99 more horsepower and to 60 m.p.h. in 0.70 of a second faster and an additional 154 lbs. - ft. in torque.

Below is a spreadsheet showing the differences between the two models based on the options that I originally selected for the C4S-X51.

If it were me, I'd go for the TT. No doubt the C4S would be an awesome car, but you would be in it very deep with tons of options, and would probably suffer a lot more on resale. $ for $, I think you get more with the TT and, most of all, the performance figures of the TT are intoxicating. And despite a couple bits I am not sure about design-wise, its still a damn hot looking car.

Very nice - I do the "side-by-side" spreadsheet all the time. It drives my wife nuts! Personally I like the style/looks of the C4S better, but that much hp is hard to argue with ... especially for the price difference.

I doubt you'll be able to order an even minimally equipped 997TT for under $135k. Remember, Porsche dinks you for damn near everything (floormats, litronic lights).

You will get the $10K back in resale value, get the TT.

Great option list, I would also get the park assist.

You have to be disciplined but you can get away with a base Porsche.

I highly doubt you will get any dealer discount on the 997TT for at least 18 months.

If discount is available on the 997 TT IMO easily worth the 10K difference.

Hell, you are making me sick because I'm starting to think ... for another $18k more ... but then again, I can't wait any longer.

Am I the only one concerned that the TT might have a more harsh ride? I've heard the 997S has far superior ride quality as compared to the 996 TT. However, maybe the 997 is improved in this area? But perhaps there are some non-monetary components that need to built into the decision matrix... (i.e ride quality, et.al.)

Interesting reading the spreadsheet (I like it), but to me what the spreadsheet tells me is that the X-51 is massively overpriced. Credit 16.5K (cancel X-51) and the difference then becomes 26.5K which is a huge difference.....and perhaps not much difference between S and S X51?
