Every car from 1968 - up sold in north america HAS side markers - just some are integrated into headlight / taillight housings.
i.e.
No seperate side reflecters, however, the headlights / taillights wrap around a bit and that's where the reflecters are.

Federal DOT regulations require front amber and red rear marker lights. The amber bulb in a clear marker satisfies the Federal requirements. Some states require that the marker be amber in color so your clear marker might not be legal in your state. Since amber markers are legal under Federal regulations and are legal in all fifty states Porsche only uses amber markers for U.S. cars.
