Default Clear side lights

Has anyone changed out the front side lights on their 997 themselves? Is the process difficult? I would like to change out the amber lights with clear. I just think they look better. Thanking you in advance.

not hard at all, just check the manual really - look up 'replacing bulbs' - if porsche is like any other car maker it will have steps on how to remove the parts to change the bulb

It is pretty straight forward--grasp the edge of the side marker unit closest to the wheel and pull it toward you, it comes right out of the body indentation. Use a smooth, steady motion so you don't scratch the paint. Once the unit is free, unplug the bulb, re-plug it into the clear side marker unit and snug it back in to place. If you're not comfortable doing it, your dealer will probably be more than happy to do it for you.

You're not allowed to on the Club Coupes. They have to remain as factory equipped.

Dan's correct. Porsche Police will be knocking at your dooor and taking the car back.

OK, I'm just jealous that I didn't get one.

Default Clear Lens

Where can you get the clear lenses? Is it a kit from Porsche? Is it an option as well?

Thanks,
Deanski

Any P-car dealer. Suncoast generally has them on their "Weekly Specials" page. As I recall, $29.95

Any dealer will have them. They are available individually, right and left. Price is about $17.00 each, so $34.00 for the pair. Dealer might give you a discount.... better yet, ask your sales person to have them put on the car prior to delivery. Maybe he will make that one of your "delivery day freebies".... then again, maybe not.

one of the least expensive and, imo, nicest looking mods on the car!!!

really easy to install (<5mins for both!)

careful when you pull the protective rubber boot off of the socket
it can fall back into the car... ask me how i know
some masking tape to keep it in place may do the trick.. or just be careful

cheers

Thanks for that info! Good point on "delivery day"!

Follow the procedure in the manual. Do not try to pull the unit out by force. I repeat, do not try to pull the unit out. You'll damage it. Ask me how I know.

There is an access port inside the wheelwell through which you need to insert a long small flat blade screwdriver to depress the spring clip that holds the unit in place. Make sure you turn your wheel in first for easy access with the screwdriver. Once you depress the spring clip the unit comes free easily.

Follow the procedure OCBen posted. They don't just pop out on the 997. They are held in place by a retaining clip which must be released.

The best prices I've found for all Porsche parts is at Sunset Porsche. The clear markers were $22.60 for the pair.

John - he's not kidding.
If you see these P-Police coming put the amber light back on!
(Check out Suncoast Porsche $30 for clear side markers w/amber bulb )

Yes, do exactly what Ben suggested. Go at the side marker through the wheel well and position the long screwdriver behind the side marker. Pull the handle of the screwdriver in toward the car and the head of the screwdriver will pop the marker out. It is a simple job and the results are great. Refer to your manual for other details.

See the thread and pictures that I posted after I perfromed this requisite minor surgery:

I bought my side markers on ebay, which is yet another source for the purchase.

Deanski,

Here are the Porsche factory part#'s for the clear turn signals.

997-631-034-01 side marker lamp clear right side
997-631-033-01 side marker lamp clear left side

I paid $17 per side at my dealer Ray Catena.
