My Blue Zoomer was built in September of 2005 so I called my dealer this morning to see if she is effected by the recall. I am very happy to say that she is not, perhaps because she has the PSE and X51.

If the exhaust systems for the 997 and 997S are identical except for the exhaust manifold and the fake quad tips, then the weld problems must be in the S headers, since the quad tips are just cosmetic bolt-ons.

STUTTGART, Germany (Reuters) - Porsche is recalling some 18,600 of its iconic 911 Carrera model line worldwide to fix problems with welding joints in their exhaust systems.

The vehicles affected are from its sportier 911 Carrera S and its all-wheel drive sister 911 Carrera 4S derivatives that were built between April 2004 and October 2005, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

In a worst-case scenario, the defective welding joints can lead to the loss of the tail pipe.

A spokesman for Porsche was not available for comment and the company did not provide details about the costs other than to say repairs would last some 25 minutes at no charge to the customer.

Porsche last had to recall its products late in December, 2004, when it wanted to check the roof mechanisms on some 18,150 of its 911 Carrera cabriolets at a cost of up to 10 million euros."

I'm sort of hoping the repairs will last longer than 25 minutes...

That's funny. Poor choice of words from that anonymous writer. Should have said something like "repairs are expected to take up to 25 minutes".

ATLANTA, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche today announced a recall of certain Porsche 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S sports cars for potentially defective exhaust pipe tips. The recall involves those cars built between April 20, 2004, and October 21, 2005, 5,385 of which were sold in the United States and Canada.
*** On these cars, it has been discovered that the exhaust pipe tips fitted to the tailpipes might have inadequate welding seams between the fastening clamp and the tailpipe itself. Should these welding seams fail, the tips can vibrate lose from the tailpipe and fall off.* To date, approximately 30 instances of this occurrence have been reported worldwide.
*** Owners of these potentially affected 911s will be informed shortly to take their cars to an authorized Porsche dealer where new exhaust tips with improved welding seams will be installed at no charge.

I wonder how much of the exhaust system will have to be replaced? More than likely up to the last bolted connection.

My understanding is that in properly equipped cars that if the exhaust falls off, one simply needs to push the Sport button to reattach it.
My car was completed October 20th,...one day before the cut-off of 10/21 - I wonder if I'll get a recall notice???????

I spoke to Niello this morning and asked them if my 2006 C2S I bought in Sep 2005(had to have been MFG during that period) was included.........they said my car was not on the list?
