Default Hello and a question re the seat belt chime

Hello everyone - this board is a great resource and I am happy to have stumbled in. I am a long time Porsche driver and just recently traded my 02 C4S for an 06 997S. Absolutely love the car but it had 2 LITTLE things that bugged me. The first was that the sport exhaust option that cost $2400 defaults to quiet every time you turn off the engine and I want it on - thats why I bought it. Thanks to the info on thiis board, I fixed that quickly by disconnecting the electronics and now it sounds great all the time. The second issue is the "police state" seat belt chime that rings incessantly for 90 seconds if you are not a good citizen. I do wear my belt when driving but I like the option of being able to unlatch on occassion without the chime going off. I am guessing that something as simple as physically removing (or somehow disabling) the chime without breaking the circuit would work but my mechanic won't touch it (liability issue I guess). I am a little handy and would do it myself (if its not too complicated) but I don't know where to begin even looking for the chime. Any help appreciated?

If you do a search you'll see that this topic has come up numerous times. The bottom line is there is no way to disable the chime. I suggest you do what I did, get a buckle that you can just use when you're driving locally. In my case, I was lucky that a Rennlister was upgrading his seat belts and sent me one of his old buckles. I'm sure you could buy one from a dismantler or junk yard. And, it doesn't have to be from a Porsche; I know that a number of makes (BMW among them) use the same stle buckle.

You should also disable the airbags.

Has anyone (I haven't) explored disabling the wire at the base of the belt? I have been meaning to get a belt to check this out but just haven't gotten around to it.

I hate having to press the legal agreement everytime I use my Nav System on the PCM, should I just take a hammer and smash the screen?

LOL.

Yes, it seems that buckling up should do the trick.

My, for someone who chose such a username, that remark has to be the furthest from the concept of nobility as you can get.

The guy asked a legitimate question, no need for arrogant, flaming remarks.

I don't need a "car nanny" chime to remind me to wear my seatbelt. It's his car and if it annoys him why shouldn't he disable it.

Oh yeah, I remember that one. Don't know why it didn't come up in my search.
