Default seat belt nanny

Bought a cabro in June and the seat belt ding dong is driving me crazy. Is there any other brand of car where the ding dong goes forever besides Porsche?? Anyone know how to cripple that darn bell?

Yea you can cripple it, by using your seatbelts.

I used a tool called a VAG-COM on the audi to get rid of that seat belt GONG...but not sure how to work it on the P-car.

My S4 does the same thing, but it is more annoying in the 997S. I would like to know how to get rid of it too. I always drive with my seatbelt on, but like to take it off when parking, especially when I reverse in. The constant dinging sound is annoying.

Why the assumption that if you want to disable the seatbelt chime you must want to drive with your seatbelt OFF? I've snipped many a seatbelt warning chime wire in past vehicles, but in a car as electronically complex as a 997, I'd be hesitant to start cutting wires.

However, I don't need an incessant chime to tell me to put on my seatbelt, which for some reason I still cannot train myself to do BEFORE I start the car. I always buckle up AFTER I've started the engine...don't know why.

With so many "customizable" things on these cars, you'd think shutting off the seatbelt chime could be accomplished...without screwing anything else up at the same time.

Well, I'm sure it's a liability issue.

I always belt/unbelt before I turn the key. So it really gets annoying for me when I park and take the seat belt off before shutting the car off. But I guess, in my 996, I came to view it as a cool-down timer. When the chime stops it's OK to shut down the car.

Interestingly enough, my '06 997S doesn't activate the seatbelt chime unless I'm going forward, and I'm going over something like 15 mph.

I always wear my seatbelt, and I think anyone who doesn't needs his head examined. BUT, I have backed out of my driveway a couple times prior to putting my seatbelt on, and that was when I noticed the chime kicking in.

Also worth noting, mine is a manual trans. I wonder if it's different with a tiptronic.

Yes, get the hack to remove instrument cluster. Find the tone generator. Looks like a (black?) button with a hole in center. Fill hole with hot glue, put tape over it, de-solder and remove it, or clip contacts of tone generator with small wire snips. Done.

I would be dead (literally) if I had been wearing a seatbelt when I went off a cliff as a passenger in an Austin Healey in my youth. Having said that, I always wear my seatbelt and think anyone who doesn't is being foolish.

Excellent point.

What you've been seeing is the typical toe-the-line response here. Another predictable response you'll see is when the subject of increasing hp by aftermarket mods is raised. The typical toe-the-line response is "Learn to drive what you have first." Or to put it succinctly in the words of JFK: "Ask not what your Porsche can do for you. Ask what you can do for your Porsche."

But yes, I too am annoyed by the annoying alarm. Guess if we had access to a wiring diagram showing where the two-wire connector to this sound device is located, we might be able to isolate it and disable it. We might also be able to attenuate it some by dropping the voltage across it with a series resistor. Somebody surely might be able to work out a hack for this that they can then share with the rest of us.

But count me in too in wanting to silence this bleeping beeper.

Same here...for when I drive back from the washing station to my place, which is about 200 yards. But it's damn annoying nonetheless...once past 15MPH, it never shuts off until you click in or shut off.

I've never had a car that sounds the alarm every time the seat belt is removed.

Just obnoxious.

The seat belt chime keeps gonging until the seat belt gets plugged in? How are we supposed to use 6-point harnesses with the 997?

On the 996, you just click to hit 'OK' on the OBC, and the warning display and chimes went off. The seatbelt light stayed lit, but at least you could drive without an idiot light and chime in your face. Sheesh!
