Ive heard from elsewhere that this is going to be the 4-door 911. Basically a 911 stretched a little bit. I doubt its going to be an actual 4-door sedan. Probably a big GT with little mini rear doors. Think Lamborghini Espada, but with doors similar to the RX-8 is probably a good guess.

$100,000 Euros is about $132,000 US Dollars right now. The USD is relatively weak these days. A few years ago - the USD:Euro was about 1:1.

In fact, I believe we there were rumors of coming price increases from Porsche on '05s and '06s due to the weak dollar.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - German luxury sports car maker Porsche AG said Wednesday it will begin producing a new a four-door, four-seat sport coupe that is expected to be on the market by 2009.

Dubbed the Panamera, the new model is expected to reach a production level of about 20,000 vehicles annually. A retail price for the model wasn't released, but analysts have said it could range from US$125,000 (euro104,279) to US$175,000 (euro145,991) per car, depending on the options.

Stuttgart-based Porsche said it would spend approximately euro1 billion (US$1.2 billion) to develop the new coupe, which is expected to feature elements from its Cayenne sport utility vehicle and Carrera GT sports car.

"We indeed took a lot of time making the decision, but we now know that the Panamera fits to Porsche as it has all typical sports-car genes," Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking said.

In a statement, Porsche said the Panamera would be a "sport-coupe in the premium class with four seats and four doors." Porsche's other lines include the Cayenne, 911 and the Boxster.

Unlike the Cayenne, which Porsche developed with Volkswagen AG, the Panamera's production will be a strictly Porsche product, from the engine on up. It should reach markets by 2009, the company said.

A site for manufacturing the new model hasn't been decided upon, but Porsche said it is looking at a site in Leipzig where its Cayenne and Carrera GT models are currently produced. "This, however, is still being discussed," the company said.

If the Leipzig plant is selected, it would mean the creation of 600 new jobs, while another 400 would be created in Stuttgart, where the engine for the Panamera will be built.

Porsche has been buoyed by increased sales of late, thanks in part to its revamped 911.

Through the first 10 months of the fiscal year, sales reached euro5.3 billion (US$6.5 billion), up 5.4 percent from the same period the year before, the company said, with 69,685 cars sold.

Sales of the new 911 were up 21 percent to 22,973 and the Boxster sold 16 percent more to 12,166. Sales of the top-end Carrera GT rose to 549 units over 124 for the same period the previous year.

The best selling Porsche was the Cayenne SUV, which was up 6.6 percent to 33,997 units.

Shares of Porsche were down 1 percent to euro650 (US$779.16) in afternoon trading in Frankfurt.

Here's another link to the "Stretched CGT", in English, and with what appear to be recent spy pics.
