Default Valentine 1 install in 997? (Where to put the remote?)

Ordered a Valentine 1 and the remote display, but it doesn't look like the over steering wheel location for the remote (that many used with 996's) will work without blocking the displays. Has anyone installed a V1 with remote in a 997 yet? Looking for ideas and suggestions.

I was going to get a V1, but I hear that the tech is old and not very reliable anymore. Any truth to this?

There are a million threads about V1 versus others, but I still think the overall consensus here is that the V1 is best, but the newest Escort and maybe the newest high end Bel seem to get some good reviews (some of the reviews out there may not be unbiased). V1 just upgraded for POP and something else. I decided it was definitely good enough for my needs. Mike V is a rennlister BTW.

I was all for the V1. My wife got me the new Bel Pro RX65, ironically enough for Valentine's Day.

the V1 has been updated and upgraded periodically ever since it came out.

it doesnt have the planned obsolescence of other detectors, you can send back your old unit and have it upgraded to the newest standard for a minimal fee every time something new comes out.

the Arrows alone make the V1 worth it.

The V1 being worth it is subjective. From what I read there are pros and cons with the V1 just like any other RD. I read more reviews stating the Bel was superior. One thing Valentine needs to do is upgrade the product design of the V1. The hardware's UI and industrial design are stuck in the 80s.

I have a V1, and it has performed well on the road trips that I take.
It helps enhance situational awareness.

In the metro area of so cal (LA) when not on the freeway, the largest threat is LASER (revenue generator), being instant on, you are a fish in a barrel.
Theres a revenue stop near my house and I've spoken to the officers as well as tried out the Laser gun, a pretty amazing device that can get you at 1800ft, the display gives speed and distance. The romors that it has to be aimed at the licence plate or headlamp are pure bunk, aim the tiny red circle at the car, and beam spread finds somthing to reflect back.

Bottom Line
There is NO Substitute for situational awareness.

I would do more research. What I found is that the V1 is the best supported and only upgradeable detector out there.

As I don't want a permanent install (switch between vehicles a lot) I am going to have the (RJ11) wire run so there is a small pigtail above my mirror for the hookup.

Call me a V1 owner with no regrets.

Cool

I was also intending to install my V1 with remote in my 997--two locations came to mind. Most obvious would be the parcel cut-out immediately in front of the gear shifter. Some velcro mounted on the upper lip of the opening would have the remote occupying a large portion of that opening...I like to keep my sunglasses there now-so that is my second choice.

My first choice for now, unless someone else has a better idea, is the ashtray as the location for the remote. I think with some minor mods, this would be a 'stealthy' location for the remote. You could close the door whenever you wanted. Down side for this location--you would have to turn your eyes away from the road momentarily to see which arrows are illuminated.

I sent my unit in for upgrading for POP...have not tried it yet, but was generally pleased with the performance of the V1. Just cost $60.00 for the upgrade including shipping.

I've done a fair bit of research on detectors as I am considering upgrading my 4 year old Escort 8500.

Escort is marketing its new 8500 x50 as upgradeable, FWIW. Too bad my 2001 model is not.

The V1, the Escort and the Bel RX 65 seem to all be rated pretty close and the top 3 detectors by those who review detectors.

I have read some good reports on the K 40. One is that they will pay for a ticket that you get. It also has a VG -2 protection. It seems easy to install and satisfies the qualities I need.

Default Valentine 1 is the best!

If it wasn't for Mr. Valentine's masterpiece, my insurance rates would be through the roof. V1 is, without a doubt, the most reliable and technologically advanced radar detector in the market. Thank you Mr. Valentine!

I too have been thinking about where to put the V1 remote display or to even use it at all [I have one that I just could find the right place for in another car]. One thought I had was to mount the display on the right side of the steering wheel [opposite from the key]. Would be a visible - yet discreet location. Else, I may not use it at all since I'll be mounting the detector itself exactly as Tomaso has.

I thought about putting the remote to the right of the steering wheel (opposite the key) - could be done very cleanly - but I think the steering wheel would block it. At least for now (hard wire to follow), I have the V1 mounted as in Tomaso''s pictures, so there is not much need for the remote (except to camaflouge the indicator lights).
