Default 997 sales so far..........

After being told that I would have to wait 7 months for a new 997 by the dealer several times.....The last 2 times i have stopped by they have had 2 or 3 997's sitting available on the lot....

Must be cancelled orders.....Soon you will get them at nice discounts I predict!!!

Anyone else see standing inventory?

Yeah, there is usually 1-3 997 that's sitting at each dealer. A lot of buyers are going with pre-own 996 since most of the change is in the interior and most 996 have upgrade interior.

Has anyone got a "discount" for the 997 here in San Diego or in the LA area yet? And if so where?

I don't feel that the 997S is worth 30k more than a used 996 C2 or C4S with 4-5k miles on it!

Can you really tell me that it is that much faster than the others?

The 40th anniv. is just as nice inside and same horsepower as 997S!

robert, have you driven the 997? it's a major setp forward imo, and it's not just about hp. with increasing inventories of un-sold 997's, comparing deals on late 996 vs. new 997 will be less relevant.

40 Years = 345 Horsepower.
997S = 355 Horsepower

Most classifieds show inventory from day 1, cars are even discounted.

I think is an inventory becuase many people who spend almost a100k on a car are ordering it with the exact options they want . You go to a dealer that has 2 or 3 cars on the lot chances are the options are not even close it would be what you want .

I think there are 997S's around, but not that many. There seem to be a lot of 997's around. I suspect the dealers are pretty much hanging tough on prices for 997S's (and that may be why they are still on dealer lots here and there), while I suspect bigger discounts on 997's are available. My dealer told me recently that new deliveries on 997S's are sparse. Perhaps PAG is focusing more effort on expanding the 997 line than pumping out 997S's. I tend to think the 997S was a more logical extension of the 911 line than plain 997 (not that plain 997's aren't a nice step forward), and that they will stay in higher demand for quite a while.

My dealer here in CT has told me that he has sold/ordered 5 997s for every 1 997.

There are still an amazing number of dealers that have their two initial delivery cars: the black/black "S" and the seal grey standard 997.

To me, the cars were not equipped well. If I want a "performance" 997 I'd want the S model, but not loaded up with 20K in options the way the original cars were. If I wanted a more genteel cruiser, I'd go for a base model with full leather, nav, etc.

Regardless, cabs have traditionally outsold coupes in the U.S., and I'm sure the dealers will be grateful to have cabs on hand next summer.

They are not cancelled orders most likely.
They are dealers playing hard to get.

If they say to you that we are completely sold out for X amount of months, you will want one even more...think about it.
But if you go to the dealer and there are 12 cars just sitting there...guess who is in the drivers seat??literally !!

I'd be willing to bet that these cars have been brought in from out-of-state dealers. I don't see any discounts in So. CA anytime soon. If you can get one then

The 1st batch of 997S cars had a MSRP of about $99k, probably didnt appeal to most buyers.
